Southwest lowers turbine Mins back to 1000

What would you think if ALL airlines required you to show up qualified in their particular aircraft on day one.

No big deal as long as they don't stipulate where and how??

If they paid over $60K the first year and over $100K the second year, I don't see the problem. I don't hear people crying over med school.

Basically, if you don't like, don't apply. Sure, you can fly at CAL and make $30K a year, but you saved that $8K on the type rating!

There are two CAL's in Southernjet's new hire class -- might be for that reason, I dunno.

Is this a crazy business, or what...

I had (they're now divorced & he has moved out) a neighbor who flew for Delta, got mad at them because of the force majuere II furlough of which he was part, quit to fly at ATA, got furloughed, and now flys at Continental...

Crazy, I tell ya!

Kevin

Speaking of ATA, we got a chance to exchange a bunch of jokes with a couple of ATA guys in the sim break room.

How come those boneheads don't stock RC anymore? That's a nostalgia thing for me during sim training. The breaktime moon pie w/RC! :)

The 757! But I was in the "airplanes-that-we-no-longer-fly" 767-200 (sim #1).

Here's the way I look at it. I could pay for the type rating and get more money, or I could make less money at somewhere like CAL or US Air flying the same equipment for a fraction of the pay. It evens out, IMO. Which is why the regionals don't require a type. With the money they're paying us at this level, no one in their right mind would buy a type for this job unless they were made of money. I'll spend the extra $6-8K for a type if it gets me $100K a year as a second year FO, killer health benefits and back to MCO.

It's not really PFJ in my mind. Like Doug said, SWA doesn't make you get the type rating from them. If they did, THEN I would have a problem with it.

Whenever I get the time which is no rush, their my number 1 choice. MCO base and their pay is the biggest thing to me. Getting the 737 type rating b4 hand doesn't guarantee you'll get the job. Will they hire someone who doesn't have the rating b4 the interview?
