That's an entirely personal question. Is your passion to become a dispatcher or to be part of the Southwest family? If you want to dispatch, go dispatch wherever you can to start. Get experience, jump on every application opening that comes up at WN.
Back when I had hair on my head, all I wanted to do was work at United. When I went into dispatch school, I had my eyes on United. Well, time came to get on with United and I bombed it. I mean, legendarily bombed it. Fast forward a few years and here I am at Southwest, and I can't imagine being any happier than I am now. Turns out, the United of today is a company I would not be happy working at. I have no interest in living in the city of Chicago, and the commute from where I would be willing to live to the city is 45 minutes to an hour on a good day, and about 3 hours to my lifespan on a bad day. If they had kept dispatch in Elk Grove Township the commute might be doable.
Either way, it's 80 degrees here today in Dallas. Yeah, I'm not missing Chicago.
Point is, follow your heart. It'll take you to where you want to be, whether you're aware of what that would be or not.
Yes.
I bombed an interview. It was on the computer, for $50k or whatnot. A good gig, but I fricken sucked.
Fast forward and I'm at a major (not United).
