Yes and no. It all depends on the station. Many of the places I go don't have PreCheck, yet I don't have to take my EFB out, and some PreCheck lines make me take everything out and separate it. There is zero consistency. And then, when I forget to ask, it's like I've declared WWIII on the TSA.

If you have to go through using normal pax rules because you are out of uniform commuting or whatnot and they find your makeup or water bottle and it's extensive or important enough to keep, use those same pax rules and elect to not proceed through security and have them hand you your item back. Go to the bathroom, put on the uniform and try again.

IIRC, the somewhat specific clarification from TSA a couple years ago that uniformed flight crews actually be working was the result of a pilot getting busted doing exactly that. I think that was before KCM though.

Are you not allowed to go through security in uniform if you're not working?

That kinda sucks. I had a lanyard snag in a hotel van and I had no idea. Just happened to look down when I was getting out to see my SIDA/ID/KCM badge on the van floor. That wouldn't have been a fun day 4.

Really? When I was at Skywest, all employees were told it was a $50 fee. Wasn't job specific, it was just listed in the PIM for the company.
 
When I flew at Shuttle the first replacement was free and after that there was an escalating fee for each subsequent replacement.
