Something something increased randoms

he really should have just stuck with real estate

I didn’t mean THAT one! :) I should find a more generic name to use so no one gets triggered. Maybe one of the 500 variations of Brooklyn or Brackstyyne

But really, I stopped complaining about it or even caring about the randoms.

Like passing through the corridor in DTW there’s always some tremendously upset crew member “This is my fifth time getting randomed this week!!”

“K…” *shrug*

He looks like he's about to get in it and film a youtube rant about how participation trophies are ruining America or something.

Right? :)

And then his buddies on Facebok roll-in to ‘like’ this post:

We were at my nephew's soccer game yesterday and there was a kid named Maverick 😕

Dude! KCM is to airport security; what USAA is to insurance.

When I first joined USAA many moons ago, it was for commissioned officers only. Had great rates on a variety of things, over and above all other insurance companies out there.

But then, USAA decided to bring in all enlisted, in order to boost membership. What happened? Well, now you started having Lance Corporal / Petty Officer 3rd Class / Private First Class / Airman 1st Class Schmuckatelli taking out loans they would default on, miss 4 months of credit card payments or payments on that CBR1000 crotch rocket that they thought was a great buy when it was totally overpriced, and they’ve managed to keep it hidden from the repossessors. So, those losses get passed to the masses and prices go up.

Then, USAA decides to double down by incising not only relatives of anyone who served in the military, but open to anyone whose third cousin’s half brother knew someone who once served in the military.

And all that happened was that USAA became just another insurance company, no different than any of the others. Non-competitive prices, average service, etc. Even with Rob Gronkowski advertising for them.
Well I guess I better switch my insurance from USAA to someone else so I don't lower their standards.

I actually found them more stringent and with higher rates than other banks when it came to getting a loan. I was very happy with them for insurance though until I decided to randomly get some quotes a few months ago and realized I can save an average of 50% with almost any other insurance. Even called them asking for a break so ii could stick with them because I was very happy with them the few times I needed to use my insurance but they wouldn’t work with me.

And fun fact GEICO was originally for government employees only. Government Employee Ins CO

Absolutely. Their products are kind of meh now. Their mortgage rates and terms aren’t very competitive. Not terrible, just not much different from other competitors for similar product, and worse in some ways. Same for auto insurance for some categories.

I still remember when GEICO had offices on bases.

For those that have left USAA, who did you go with ?

Only done a mortgage with USAA (which they promptly sold), but we have been with Erie Insurance since about 2012. Rates have been pretty reasonable and the two times I’ve had to use them after hitting deer with my car, they’ve been fantastic.

They do tend to be a bit risk adverse. I forget which car it was, but I once got a letter saying they don’t usually like to insure cars with that kind of power to weight ratio, but because I’d been such a good customer…

Travelers or Armed forces for home had good rates for where I live. And GEICO for autos was very good. GEICO was some significant savings for me, about 45% of the USAA quote. Use Progressive for my commercial vehicles. Besides their business model I described above that has reduced them to nothing more than just another insurance company with too many flag officers at the top, USAA has some large overhead costs including a large money hungry real estate portfolio. Combined with having to shovel dollars to the retired flag officers on the Friends of McDermott board. Even the subscribers savings account contributions hasn’t been what it was over the last nearly 30 years of membership.

Sure, other insurance companies have their own costs and of course your mileage may vary as rates will depend based on how you do your insurance…..umbrella, bundle, etc. So a side by side comparison must be done based on your wants and needs.

Didn’t know that about USAA.

So Geico is actually the government employees insurance company. How is that open to everyone? I assume a similar story to USAA? Probably initially meant for a very small sect of people. Today opened to anyone and their mother.
