Something big happening at Southwest...

I have it on good authority that they’re finally getting beverage carts.
They do so many things that are "off" just to be different and then blame it on employee preference.

No drink carts? "Our employees prefer to balance trays precariously"

No enclosed deicing trucks? "Our employees prefer open buckets so they can see the aircraft better"

No flight deck window shades? "Our pilots prefer windows without window shades for some reasons..."

Maybe if these finance bros spent 2 minutes in a Southwest 737 being repositioned in Oakland with a JBL speaker hanging out the window, they'd have a little less faith in these guys ability (or desire) to take on this role. Especially now that their "future" cake job dissappeared.

FinanceBros care about one thing, ROI. In this case it is an airline, but they look at everything through a spreadsheet with dollar signs. The discussion to layoff employees went something like this:

“We’re going to cut jobs to better position ourselves, and our investors.”

“But this is Southwest Airlines, we’ve never laid people off, ever! Culture, Herb Keller….”

“Well, first time for everything and we’re going to do it today. Reduction in workforce blah blah blah…. Shareholders….”

That’s just the way it goes with financebros.

SWAPA thinking it's condolences on LinkedIN are helpful when most corporate employees see massive pilot pay raises as the reason for it.
Well, can't speak to SWAPAs message, but the sentiment seemed like it was "why does the company hate pilots?" So the US vs THEM issue was present, not surprised this is a take of those being let go, but really sorry to see it.

Yeah. I do cringe a lot when I hear pilots bitch about money…there’s a weird tone deafness in this business about money where a lot of folks don’t seem to realize it’s really, really rude to talk about money in mixed company.
Holy •, this! I had a van driver ask about our contract negotiations. CA proceeded to tell him that we were offered XX% raises, blah blah blah. Mind you, the van driver was mid-fifties, from Puerto Rico or Cuba. He listened to the captain and they kept talking all the way to the airport. We get out of the van and the captain handed the guy a • dollar. After bragging about our huge pay raises. I was so • mad, stuff like that pisses me off. STFU and go enjoy your boat without bragging to those less fortunate. And for god’s sake, tip more than a • dollar!

Said no ramper ever. De icing a CRJ was a pain in the rear with an open bucket truck. Then we started getting mainline airlines and it was a nightmare especially if it was blowing snow or something heavy coming down.

Next up the eyebrow windows make a comeback?

Had a ex-GF who said the only thing worse than screening passengers (this was pre-TSA, where some airlines did their own screening) was open bucket de-icing.

Idk what changed but airport ops and pilots got along great, better than any airline I ever worked for, at least in 2021/2. I wonder what happened since...

Still is for the most part, there is always a bad apple here and there in every department but overall we all get along really well.

Now I’ve heard of anti pilot sentiment from inside the GO, but that is a different kettle of fish.

As for open bucket deicing, I’ve done it and it sucks! But when I was still parking airside in Denver I asked as many rampers as I could whether they really wanted that like the company said. I was surprised to hear that some did prefer it, some hated it and a lot were just kind of agnostic about the whole thing.

I figured it would have been unanimously for the enclosed ones.
