In our (and I mean UND instructors) defense partly the reason they may have been disappointed is that they gave us about a week and a half notice on 1. They had positions available; 2. They were coming to UND IN A WEEK AND A HALF. That and the fact their minimums were so low a lot of people thought - "what the hell" and went for it. Pinnacle also initially said they "preferred" the ATP written be completed and finished by ground school date if hired - then changed their mind about it 4 days before they came and required it - then ripped into the applicants who applied, got interviews but didn't have their ATP written documentation with them. If they want a successful interview process they should 1. give PLENTY of notice (at least 3 weeks to a month) before they come; 2. Be clear in their expectations and stick with them; 3. require a little more than 500 hours and multiengine rating! Even 600/100 would be much better! When airlines come here with low expectations for hours then applicants feel they have low expectations for everything else and figure they're a shoe in. That being said - I think you're right eglpilot by saying the did them a favor by not hiring them... too many questionable things about them right now (and horrible pay!)
