Some Tips from AirlineApps.com

Can an expert at airlineapps help me with this question:

Will I NOT be getting a call from companies on there if my times are 11 hours off? I have tried like heck to make the times match, but they just DON'T! Why? Because airlines want command PIC time... well, command PIC + SIC does definitely not add up to total (I logged over 150 hours of PIC/Dual Received).

I also have some time in there that I don't know if I can count as SIC because I was getting Dual. Ie - instead of being in a sim I was in the actual plane learning.

I also logged time when I was a new guy where I didn't get any PIC or Dual received but I got total time - the reason for this is that my DPE at the time told me I could not log "high performance" as PIC without a high perf endorsement. It was safety-pilot PIC though....

Ugh. Why do I make logging so hard?

This is my main problem with AirlineApps. The way they record flight time is tedious, and intentionally difficult.

Don't fret over it

Be as accurate as you can. If there's a ten hour error hidden in a few thousand hours of time so be it.

I have a whole page in my logbook dedicated to an error that was fixed. I forgot to carry forward a page worth if totals....

How does one not "fret" if:

What I will share with you is "completeness counts".

Make sure your numbers add up on your experience and, if it's not truly PIC, do not list it as PIC. They know all the "tricks in the book" — do not get yourself flagged as being dishonest this early in the process.

How does one not "fret" if:

I think, would hope, "they" are speaking more to completing the application in its entirety. Using proper sentences to answer applicable questions instead of just "volunteer, served food,".

If you can find the error, great. If not, just (cue Frozen soundtrack) Let it go.

I asked one of the reps from apps this very thing and he said "some people are a couple hundred hours off. You have nothing to worry about over 15 hours." I ended up finding out I made an error, but his explanation made me feel better.

I didn't see this anywhere in the thread and if it is there it bears repeating. Please when you interview don't bash your current employer. I went to one interview and (surprise!) there was someone else from my company there interviewing as well, he went into the panel first and apparently bashed the company. When I went next the first thing they said to me was "It sounds like things are awful over there." I tactfully tried to explain it wasn't that bad, and that it was still where I worked and that I was lucky to have a decent job when I know a lot of pilots who don't have. I got hired, he didn't. I also had an interview where the panel could not understand why I wanted to leave the airline I was at, again I refused to bash the airline, and this time I wasn't hired. I am sure there were other factors but at least I could leave knowing I tried my best and that I wasn't "that guy" who trashes on everyone. This industry is too small for that. If you have made it to the interview stage the panel knows you don't want to stay where you are and dumping on your current job (even if it is horrible) generally makes you look unprofessional.

It would also be nice that when you update your profile and it says updates are sent, that you got an email saying that actually happened. Just a confirmation that it was done correctly.

You get immediate feedback that it was saved/sent at the top of any page you click the save button on in bold red letters "your information has been updated." When you have targeted airlines and you click on the publish button you get, also in bold red letters, "Your application(s) has(have) been published. Any future changes or updates to your application(s) will be sent automatically." What more confirmation would you like??? I would get incredibly irritated if I got an email every damn time I updated something on airline apps...

Worth noting that the advice above also applies to non-flying positions one might be applying for.

Indeed!

Asking one or two detail-oriented people to critique everything that you have written down is a good investment of time. Especially someone that reads a lot of resumes. Much better to make two dozen seemingly trivial revisions, much worse to be a the bottom of the circular file for simple style or grammar usage. Worst case, you will have a perfect package ready to go when the next opportunity presents itself.

If I'm working on it three tunes today it sends each time I got off? I had a hick up today and when I delete one type of aircraft it deleted then all. When I exited did it just send out to all as it indicated? Hate to think they get it 3-4 times a day.

Every time you click a button to save things, your information gets updated. I doubt that sends a trigger out to your target companies, but suspect it just updates the information they see. I assume there's probably also some timestamps involved.

A client will input certain search criteria in addition to certain discriminators like "competitive minimums" for their company and it will produce the applicants that match it. And that result will include your last update timestamp and your longevity in the system.

Email them and ask if it's possible to have something like that to opt in. I get what you're saying. The confirmation is there, but I get paranoid that internal messages aren't reliable. I can see why having a message actually leave the server is comforting. Maybe I'm stuck in the Internet of the 90's.
