Some pictures from CVG to PHX tonight! (Well, Sunday 1/11/04)

Oh, and do crew members get a "crew meal" on board each flight?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope, just certain flights depending on length and turn time at the previous airport.

Re: Some pictures from CVG to PHX tonight!

Cool. Thanks.

How often does it happen that you can be home mid-trip?

Also, do you often fly only 2 trips per day at the majors?

Re: Some pictures from CVG to PHX tonight!

While two legs a day may not seem like much you need to ask him what his duty day is like. At UPS you might only do two legs but it's all night long with a five hour sit at the sort. I've heard Doug talk about some long, on duty, sits in SLC before. You could easily put in a 12 hour day with your alarm clock set for 5am and only fly two legs.

Extraordinarily rarely!

Re: Some pictures from CVG to PHX tonight!

I had a 4 hour and 45 minute sit today in CVG before PHX and we've got a 3 hour sit in ATL when we get there tomorrow.

Re: Some pictures from CVG to PHX tonight!

Very cool picture.

I’m not sure why I am sharing, but this past summer I flew into Manchester twice. Once with my instructor and once when I was doing a solo cross country. For the solo I did BED-PWM-MHT-BED. Did a touch and go a Manchester and was behind a C172 that saw supposed to be doing a GPS approach? The controller kept telling me to slow down. I was already going really slow; was very annoying. Are they still redoing the runway at Manchester? It has been freezing here for the past couple of day; it must have been horrible up in NH.

I noticed your little crib sheet says "EasyBid 5 for Windows" at the bottom...speaking of, how 'bout a post or day-in-the-life article about how you go about bidding for lines? I'd be interested in reading that....

Doug, what is the longest route you've made in the -88/-90? Some great pics there, glad everything went alright!

I'm not even sure, but I think it might be CVG to PHX. Or DFW to SEA...

Hey Doug,
Where are all of Delta's dispatchers assigned? Are they in a central location, or spread out at several locations?

Just wondering....I'll be a dispatcher at the end of this semester, and as graduation creeps up on me, I suppose I better know a little bit more about all of my options!!

All of Delta's dispatchers are at the OCC (Operations Control Center) in Atlanta.

The Delta OCC is a room that absoutely puts mission control at NASA to shame. It's a dark room with gigantic monitors, meteorologists, live cameras, news feeds, interactive weather charts, satellite imagery, flight tracking computers and all sorts of stuff. There is also a maintenance "go team" of sorts when you contact flight control with a maintenance issue, you've got a bevvy of specialists to work out the problem.

It's really an impresive set up.

For a minute there I thought you were going to start talking about a new show on Fox.

Doug, what is the longest you've sit at an airport without having a layover so to say, with the option of going to a hotel.

And, what do you do during this time? Just sit in the pilot lounge?

Runway 17/35 is now complete and is 9000 feet long. There's a nice hill at the 35 end at a pet cemetery to look straight down the runway if anyone cares..!

Wayfarer hotel in Manchester, NH

Do I sense that this is not your favorite hotel Doug? Could it be the fact that every hallway has a different odor to it?

That place is horrible. Not only is the van pickup hit or miss, but the place smells of some kind of fungus. I was able to get my company to switch to the Fairfield Inn.

We wish! It depends on how long the flight is, time of day, and whether there's time in your scheduled day (like a 3 hour sit in DFW) to go get yourself something to eat.

Re: Some pictures from CVG to PHX tonight!

Hey Doug ... got a question. Seems like in the last several trips you've talked about you haven't been in and out of DFW much. Does Mother Delta's schedule changes (less mainline, more baby jets) have a lot to do with that, I'd guess? Just seems to me that your trips leave DFW and always transit ATL, SLC, and CVG, never returning to base until the end. I know you decided to bid ATL since the base was shrinking and your seniority with it. Do you think DFW will go kaput as a pilot base for mainline (recognizing there's still the mostly-RJ hub there) or not?

Doug - Was it Sunday the 11th you were in MHT? I was in Manchester yesterday spotting! I saw a Delta MD88 in the morning. Maybe it was you?
