Social Media and the job hunt.

Plot twist: it was a current Southernjets employee.

It was only a matter of time before some potential pilot applicant basically pulled a jetblue-FA-style grab a can of beer, tell em to eff off, and blow the slide on the pilot recruitment side of a legacy airline. If they aren't getting called, are just sick of it, don't give a crap anymore, then bang. The silly thing is some people are thinking oh no, they just tanked their chance of getting called. But that was their point though.

To some people this career is a game or a reddit post. I'd hate to tell my grandkids that I didn't get on at a legacy because I scored mad internet points on The Facebook.

Maybe they don't want to move onto a legacy and are having fun at our expense.... I've flown with a lot of captains at OO that are making enough money as it is. One guy's wife is a pretty successful periodontist who is raking in $90k per month. This dude is working just not to be bored and so that his wife doesn't kick him out. I can understand why they do not care to move on, what is the point.

The point is that gamble works if that regional sticks around until his retirement. Or his base/flying (eg, the ATL guys at ASA who will now be forced to commute). How many Comair lifers didn't leave or want to leave? Unless you're in your 50s or 60s, it would behoove one to move to a major/legacy ASAP.

Or they could just get out of the pilot profession entirely. If I lost my regional job at 40+ and still haven't gotten on with anyone, I'm calling it quits. I'm not going to the bottom of another regional's seniority list, haha.

Pretty much "The Man" that you've got to please if you want the job.

Let's just say there was a "hand me the phone, stay away" that took place.

But in the meantime, a lot of people "self selected" themselves out of consideration. If you're looking for a job (or think you will in the next million years), always be unicorns, butterflies and rainbows when interacting with or about any company.

Lets just say the selection/recruitment circle among the airlines isn't a Venn-Diagram, it's just a circle.

Don't give anyone any ridiculous ideas.

I don't mean to give any ideas. I honestly don't know the fully transpired events that led to the creation of this thread. I guess pilots will be pilots, and for *some* that means a heavy type A personality that doesn't take well to rejection or being ignored. For example, I read on APC that a certain Endeavor SSP applicant busted the interview, and walking out decided to piss in the parking lot.

You can't please everyone, the best you can do is try to weed out who you think would be the bad ones to fly a 3-10+ day trip with. Usually the system works, occasionally it fails. I think being an interviewer for a legacy is a tough job. You have very little time to make a big decision. Gone are the days when other stuff could carry weight like sim eval performance and a written examination result.

Social media, I hear, is a treasure trove!

In the old days, you had an application, some testing, an interview and a medical.

Now, it's like you can type "John Doe" into Google/Facebook/Twitter, filter the false positives and voila! :)

Chances are, if you're pissing in the parking lot of a company, they made an awesome decision by not hiring you! :)

You're not a folk hero, you're an improper eliminator like a naughty cat.

Social media while at Colgan was fun. I got a free week off from work for a picture someone tagged me in that I didn't post.
