So who is currently accepting resumes and hiring?

Just to let you know what i know about who's hiring: Alot of my friends just got on with American Eagle in the last few weeks and I hear from them that they are hiring each month. I know Air Whisky hired this past month and not sure if thats still going on. Thats what I know as of today. Hope that helps

Dang I think I made $1400 before taxes back in 1996 at Skyway and more than half of my fellow FO's were on welfare.

Gah!

Well Jonnyb, it just happens to be that Tallboy85 is one enthusiastic aviator, and one that sees the world, and his job in a different way you see it.

I have turbine, and lots of it under my belt, and dont see what this has to do with anything. I suggest you chill a bit when expressing your point of views towards other members here. I started this topic to inform people of the status of the indusrty, and if someone wants to be encouraging, their comments are always welcomed.

You're right, and so are mine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif My comments to tallboy have nothing to do with you. I don't really care how much time you have difete (refer to previous sentence).

Ok... So... moving along...

I got a call from American Eagle for interview. I'll go interview with them at the end of this month. So for sure they are hiring at this moment. Anyone know how many people they are expecting to hire these coming years?

My friend in ground schoool now says 20-30 a month til the end of the year. Not sure the validity of that?

Don't worry, folks, Tallboy's attitude will change after he's been in PHL for a couple of bid periods. Then he'll become another bitter Mesa pilot, just like the rest of us.

QOL is huge, but if you're at a regional, it eventually has to take a back seat to PIC. I was loving life as a very senior FO at Hell, Inc, but finally made the move to the left seat because without the PIC ... I'm stuck here.

Now I'm only 900 hours away from sending out resumes. Hopefully the Brown Army will be hiring next year.

Anyonw knows lately whats up with the hiring at Skywest?
How long from the time resume was sent, till time of interview call?

Appreciate the info. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A little off topic, Does anyone have a link to regional airline pay comparisons. I know I've seen it posted in the forums a few times. I did a search, but couldn't seem to find it.

Ok, I am going to the job fair at Salt Lake on the 8th. Wish me the best guys. I'll give it my best shot at it. Skywest has been on my high list of regionals to work for.

The link to compare salaries for pilots is thus:

Difete- Is Medfly that bad you want to go to a regional? If memory serves, you were going to be a King Air PIC there, correct? Man, I wish I was in your position- getting PIC turbine. A year later my app would be in with SWA. Is the Medfly pay or hours so undesirable it isn't worth sticking out till you get 1,000 in the left seat?

Re: So who is currently accepting resumes and hiri

I was kinda wondering the same thing. I thought we had you convinced that, by far, the smartest move would be to stay where you are because they were going to upgrade you. First it was Eagle, now you want to go to SkyWest. Do what you want man, but I will stress to you one more time: If they're going to upgrade you to PIC on multi-engine, turbine equipment, STAY WHERE YOU ARE. Ok, I'm done. I just want you to really know what you're doing before you make a decision. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No doubt. My main goal right now is to hit mins to get a turbine job, then get that coveted 1000 PIC turbine. I really don't even care if it's in a Caravan. Whatever it takes to get me BACK at SWA.....

I am in training here now for the PIC, and yes... I am planning to stay here. Hopefully in two days my checkout will be complete, and I will be logging that Part 1 twin turbine PIC.

The pay is fairly good as captain here. At least much better than a first year regional FO.

I have always dreamed of becoming an airline pilot, and that was the drive to go with a regional. But I must wait. You guys are right... "reason over pasion rules the game".

My question though is... 1000 PIC in a Part 91, is that ok with majors? I wonder, if the Major airline recruiter, has one candidate with 1000 PIC in a 121 compared to me in the future with 1000 PIC but 91.. Which one will he pick?

At those big airlines, there's got to be plenty of 121 regional captain resumes waiting in line. Where a 91 captain will come into this? My plan will be to move to a regional later on, and stay for a couple years of expirience... Then apply to a major.

We'll see.

Get your 1,000 and if need be then spend a year or so at a regional to get your feet wet in 121 if you have to. A freind of mine got all their PIC turbine time flying skydivers in a Caravan, then spent minimal time as an Eagle F/O on the Jetstream before getting called by WN. The Caravan time is what got the SWA interview, although the F/O time was probably valuable too. You can always go get 121 F/O time after you get that PIC time! However, getting that F/O time first could make getting the PIC later very difficult depending on where you go. Fly your butt off for a year and then start applying. If you don't get too many nibbles, then taking a regional job will fill your resume. Having 1,000 PIC going into a regional is some good insurance you probably won't have to stay there very long to move on.

Can't speak for the other airlines, but this is what EVERY SWA FO and Capt has told me. Get the turbine, and it doesn't matter where. I met a SWA FO at MCO that used to fly Caravans for Polar Air Cargo, and that's where he got his 1000 PIC turbine. SWA mainly looks for individual personalities, the hours are there for insurance reqs. Turbine PIC is turbine PIC. The only difference b/w Part 91 and 121 is that 91 has fewer headaches and less paperwork.
