So who is currently accepting resumes and hiring?

So any one knows which regional airlines are currently accepting resumes, and hiring pilots? Please reply if you really know. No "I think" type answers. Lets keep it to the point to make this post a reference post for all. Appreciate the input. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Comair, ASA, and Chautauqua I know for sure. You'll just have to check regional websites and see which other ones are hiring.

Aviationinterviews.com is a good resource for who is currently interviewing. (This is going off my memory. Some may have changed recently etc. etc.)

The regionals that I know of are: Express Jet, Comair and ASA, Chatauqua, SkyWest, Skyway, Horizon, Aloha Island Air, American Eagle, Pinnacle, Trans States, Air Wisconsin. I'm sure there are more.

In the last few months, I personally know pilots who have interviewed with Trans States, Air Wisconsin, SkyWest, Express Jet, ASA and Eagle. Oh yeah, Mesa too.

IMHO it seems that who you know is extra important right now. Especially if you only have minimums. Some companies are interviewing, but not accepting new resumes from pilots off the street. Others are accepting resumes, but hiring in spurts.

Mesa is always hiring. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Skywest is not currently accepting resumes off the street, but IS hiring (there is a pool, but will be drained soon). Stay tuned for an all new and improved online application at www.skywest.com.

Re: So who is currently accepting resumes and hiri

I keep hearing from the wives at Big Sky Airlines (MT based I think) that their husbands are working too much and that that particular airline is losing pilots left and right.. might be a good place to put in a resume and let some of the wives see their husbands! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've heard that American Eagle is really hurting for pilots and can't keep their training classes full.

AE mins reduced

AE is hiring. The new (old) mins are once again 1,000TT & 100ME. They are hiring at least 400 this year and the next. That will barely keep up with the jet orders. There is also attrition to consider.

I was a bottom feeder a year ago. Now I have 600 under me. By the end of next year, if hiring continues as expected, I will just about be at the 50% mark on the senioirity list. Ripe for upgrade at 3-ish years. Things have been slowly starting to turn around to the pre-BizEx days- when upgrades were much faster and expansion was happening. The upgrades won't be what they became for the F/Os who were 1-24 mos seniority when 9/11 hit and were stuck for the duration of the furlough. If it weren't for that, they would have long upgraded by now. Heck everyone was stuck where they were for 2 yrs but those lucky enough to upgrade in the Saab in '01 and keep it were well under 4yrs seniority. Aviation is very cyclic. The pendulum is just now starting to swing back in our favor here.

This is the first I'd heard of the lower mins... I hopped on AE's website, and sure enough.... 1000 & 100 (I believed you... I just wanted to see what the other requirements were). I'm just curious, when did their mins drop down? Thanks!

My former company, Chicago Express, is currently hiring. Not sure how large the pool is, or if there is one, but there are classes in Sept/Oct/Nov possibly. It always changes. 1500 TTL / 100 ME mins.

ExpressJet is hiring a lot! Around 600-800 more pilots in the next 12 or so months. This is due to expansion and the CAL mainline furlough recall from the XJT list. They still have about 40 more airplanes to be delivered in the next 2 years, and 100 options with Embraer for any of their products which may be exercised. Upgrades around 4 years according to the VP of Flt. Ops. Apply online: www.expressjet.com Mins 1000 TTL / 200 ME / 60 in the last 6 months / 37.5 hrs actual.

A word about ExpressJet: It seems they like to see some high performance time in something fairly large (bigger than a BE-76/PA-44, smaller than an ERJ) to be considered for employment. Lots of 1500-2000 hr CFIs were getting plenty of questions why they weren't pursing flying larger planes with that kind of time. Doesn't matter what kind of flying it is, just bigger and faster.

I'd be careful about Mesa. I know John is going to jump all over me, but we had a guy in our interview group who was doing anything possible to get away from that company. He was flying for Air Midwest in the B1900. Same for a Shuttle America guy in the SF-340A. But SA may furlough soon anyways, so that's a moot point.

For anyone who might second guess Chicago Express because I left... DON'T! C8 is a great company, and there could be lots of growth over the horizon should ATA hold strong in this downturn. Should they get new planes, upgrades will move fast. My final decision to leave had nothing to do with the company itself or the people there. It was strictly a career and personal growth move on my part. If you work there you'll have a lot of fun with the pilots... they are an awesome group of people.

No I won't jump all over you LOL.

But I think Mesa's problems are inherent in the industry. The more I talk to my friends at commuters (or regionals) the more happy I am that I left!

If you have the time for it I highly recommend going to work for someone like Skywest, Horizon, Comair or ASA. They'll treat you and typically pay you better.

However, if you don't have the time then Mesa, XJT, Chicago Express etc may be the ticket.

Either way, here are two things to remember.

-Your life will in fact suck a little as a newhire. Do not come to an airline expecting anything to be done for you, or that they will spoon feed you anything.

-A seniority number right now is more important than anything. I've been patiently waiting the last week for them to update the Mesa seniority list with the new hires from the August 2nd class so that I can get away from the bottom of the list.

Either way, I can tell you for sure that Mesa will hire 20 a month through the rest of the year at least, and possibly through the first 2 quarters of 2005. We've got a lot of people in the pipeline right now though (about 100 just on the CRJ) so I have a feeling things will be getting a bit more selective unless you bought your interview. Ahem.

Then again whatever it takes, do it. Working at an airline is cool, especially when they give you 4 weeks off between training events that they pay you for. Even if it is 1st year F/O pay.

Rock on kids! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif
