So who is currently accepting resumes and hiring?

at least XJET is in the position to sign a much negotiate contract. At mesa we are stuck for the next 3 years..

Yeah. I'm hoping XJT gets a decent contract without having to strike. Anything above Comair to get contracts moving in the right direction at the regional level!

Good stuff, good stuff. Yeah, it seems there was a lot of 2000 total timers hired this year at the regionals, guys that have been waiting since 9/11 to get into the regionals.

Now the new generation of 1000 total timers are being looked at once again. A lot of flight schools lost many students after 9/11, and flight training was at an all time low. Possibly the regionals will ran into this air pocket on their current hiring plans soon.

This might explain the lowering of mins, what you guys think? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif

Well...
I really would not like this forum to get a "which is best regional" type argumentational style. Many of us are great apologetics. Dudes, we have like 99% of which is best/worse topics here in jetcareers. (exagerating)

I found out reading about 99% of these, that a regional is good depending on the specific "new hire's" point of view, and previous experiences.

But I do see that some airlines do have some reputations throughout the pilot community, but that is just my personal conclusion from reading all the discussions.

Good info on American Eagle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Usually when they start running out of a pool of pilots that are willing to do the job for $X, instead of doing things to retain pilots, they lower the minimums and the applications come flooding thru!

Would "$X" be a euphemism for "nearly for free"? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Lots of 1500-2000 hr CFIs were getting plenty of questions why they weren't pursing flying larger planes with that kind of time. Doesn't matter what kind of flying it is, just bigger and faster.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not trying to be a smartass or anything, but isn't that WHY they're at the interview? Not a lot of people (regionals, charters OR corporate) hiring less than 1000-1500 hour pilots right now. Unless you consider a Seneca "bigger" than a Duchess or Seminole. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[ QUOTE ]
Are you serious? You say ExpressJet is "a place to go if the others don't hire?" Please.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think by saying "if you have the time," he was referring to regionals with higher minimums. Not necessarily better, just harder to get on with initially.

Ya know what I've decided though? I don't care where you go, in someone's eyes your life is gonna be "hard", or you're gonna be "underpaid" or you have "bad" hours. Do you think I signed at the dotted line at my regional because it was gonna be hard, I was gonna make $1400 a month or have to work like a helper monkey in first class? No. I signed on to take the abuse because oh yeah...to some of us, its not abuse, it's a JOB that we care about and there's just something engrained in us that says we follow our contract, we hold the company to their end of it, we fly hard, be professional, be safe and try to earn the company some extra cash on the side. Ideally I think that's who the airlines should be hiring, it's just that the growth at certain airlines prevents that sort of indepth selection process.

I'm not sure whoever brought this up meant to insinuate that a low time CFI is incapable of being a proficient 121 pilot. Us two instructors sure did a lot better in my ground school class than a lot of the other 29 new hires and we never flew a Conquest or a Turbo Commander or anything cool like that and I guarantee because of our background we'll do better in the sim and online too. But by that logic considering I'm only a 1400hr pilot and I've got 900 hours of C172 time, there is no way I have a seniority number because I don't know how to go bigger or faster. Huh...strange.

Oh and my earlier comment about Express Jet or Mesa being in the same boat isn't necessarily what I intended. I hope you Express Jet guys get a good contract next go around, and if you want to strike for Comair wages + X% more power to you. I can wait 3 years. Basically what I was saying though is that I know a lot of pilots that wanted to go to Horizon, Skywest, ASA, Comair etc that went to Express Jet or Mesa because oh yeah...the phone call from the other places never came in, and I for one would like to start my airline career at 23 rather than 30, and I'd rather be a Captain in my 20s rather than have to wait until I'm 30. Just a thought though... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

Keep Smokin da good stuff.

I'm not sure what the big deal with being captain is. Sure it's more money, but in the big scheme of things I wouldn't sell my first born to upgrade at all.

If you're at a career carrier, I'd much rather be senior FO than junior CA any day.

De727, you got my back on this one, homey? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

"....we hold the company to their end of it...." Nice thought, but that's one of the biggest problems of why regional pilots are in the situation they are pay and QOL-wise, because they don't do this very thing.

Temper that with not being a drone "company man" that gets walked all over because they want to please the higher-ups, believing it will get them something.

A tad arrogant? I don't doubt you'd do well, but that's a pretty hearty statement to make.........

Gotta love forums man!!
Every day I log in here, is like watching a new preimer episode of a movie . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cwm27.gif

Anyway. Thanks for the encouragement Tallboy85 . It is true. Even in the job I am now flying these kingairs and beech18s, you work hard, you put in your most, you still wish to move on, and you are always thankful of being were you are.

No matter where you work at, what you do there and how well you do it, is what gives you that rewarding sensation of accomplishment. This is regardless of the company. None the less, we all strive for the best companies we can qualify for.

Here... I smoke this one for ya all!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gifCooooollll stuff dudes.

Keep the info coming for those who are looking for jobs right now like me. You know... it seems like a hiring spree is going on around now a days. Good stuff.

Sorry Mike and Doug, I can't let this go.....

Tallboy, who the hell do you think you are?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif How much time did you say you have? 1400? How much turbine? None, or next to none? That's what I thought. You are the extreme case example of a very green, ignorant, low time pilot who thinks he knows something. You know very little. It's evident by just about every post you submit. The good thing is, your credibility is undermined with every key stroke.

Yeah........you go study, you're gonna need it.

Right on. QOL!

[/ QUOTE ]

It's ALL about QOL, especially if you're happily married and/or have fantastic life away from your employer.

People ask me what flying an MD-88 is like, and I'm like, well, a lot like a 1900 but a lot faster. Then they say, "well, what's a 1900 like?" well, like flying a superfast Duchess. Then, invariably, the question becomes, well, what's a Duchess like flying? "Well, it's a Cessna with twice the trouble and 60% faster".

Can you tell I'm a QOL-type of person? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
