So much for the "Your (Delta) application must be 40 pages!"

I think I've stated before that it is not factually correct.

The powers-that-be prefer completion in less than five years AND also certain degree fields from traditional colleges, but those preferences are…. preferences and not requirements.

Hell I didn't finish in four years and had a slackers GPA.
Took me 7 and I had a "three or four jobs, existential crisis, and a divorce" GPA.

Still gunna try.

Only thing they can do is laugh at me.

There is no single metric like time to complete college that will greatly diminish your chance at an interview. Like @Derg has said many times, it's about your story/background as a whole.

Now if your story is a combination of negatives like long time to complete college, low GPA, checkride busts, no PIC, no leadership activities, no volunteerism etc with not enough positives to counteract then there is a cause for concern.

LOL how is this even a topic. Where's the common sense? Any prep company that says your app has to be xx pages long should be shown the door and request your money back.

Honestly, this is just one more example of guys getting screwed over by career prep, especially like the Delta FB page says "good" guys that were turned down due to bad prep.

The biggest problem right now is a pilot will get hired at a major airline and then proclaim they are an "expert" in the application or interview process. All you have to do is look at the number of prep companies in business before the hiring boom and now.

When pilots are desperate to get hired at a major airline, they will listen and pay whatever it takes to get ahead. Do your homework and research if you are going to hire a consultant help you succeed.

So what you're saying is,

It is not the length of the application that will help applicants "go the distance," And dirtbag prep companies leave you thinking you are "racing, pacing, and plotting the course" but in reality their "love is just a game?"

It would help someone "going for speed," however!

So, I gather the 3.5 GPA was merely a rumor as well?

It may be "preferred", I'll have to check, but it certainly isn't a requirement else I wouldn't be here.

Who said a 3.5 was required? I'd like to know where that one came from.

Sure there is, in fact it can think of 2...number of arrests and number of certificate actions.

Oh man, that's most professional jobs isn't it?

On the arrest thing, hell, it's not hard to get arrested for something, trust me. Convictions, however.

And with a number of certificate actions, you'd be done even at Mesa.

Correct.

However, a "single father raising a kid, working during the days and balancing work/life" would be an amazing counterbalance (for example).

"Meh, really just played hackeysack, undeclared for my first four years at DeVry, then got serious and completed my underwater basket weaving in two more years", not so much.

Tell your story.

Well, there goes my degree program that was going to start at the U of MN this fall... Skydiving basket weaving perhaps?!

I know, I was mostly trying to crack a joke at the expense of trips phrasing.

I had heard some strange GPA rumors as of late so I followed our fearless leaders advice and directly messaged DAL Recruiting on Facebook. I had barely picked back up my cake frosting knife before they messaged me back with:

Hi, and thanks for your question. We look at the entire picture which includes your GPA. If you meet all of our posted minimums no one item is a deal breaker. We do not have a specific number, obviously the higher the better but it's not a deal breaker. Hope that helps. DPR/bap

So as difficult as it is to believe given that Delta hiring rumors fly around the room like spaghetti in a food fight, I am really trying to push out all of the nonsense and just stick to what we all know works... networking.

I'm not entirely sure where it came from, I want to say I read it somewhere on this site. It was prior to me finishing my degree, so I didn't read too much into it. Fast forward a year and I find myself trying to figure out what the airlines are actually looking for and am kicking myself for my 2.9gpa.

Just talked with my buddy over on that team and he says the biggest problems they face are internet gossip and specious advice from some of the consultant groups so they're conducting more direct outreach to the applicants. He says they know the process is confusing but most of that is from again, internet gossip and specious advice.

He says he had an applicant at a career fair say something like "I only have a 3.3 GPA from UCLA and it took me 5 years to complete my engineering degree, so I guess i'm a 'tier two'"

whutwhutWOT?! So many things wrong with the above statement! :)

Cool, but even if my momma said it, it's not factually correct! :)

And Dorothy Mantooth is a SAINT!
