So I went to American Flyers today...

Re: AWFA

Not to bust on DCA again, but it's starting to sound like if a flight school puts out a little scratch to DCA, they can say "affiliated with the jet connect program".

Maybe it's the conspiracy theorist in me...

Personally, I'd still run like hell when you're dealing with marketing and finance people rather than an off-duty CFI.

That is exactly the case. I agree 100%.

Re: AWFA

The reason I think that is because one of the DCA guys that I run into a lot at the airport was always going out to some random city to talk to some flight school.

Now it makes sense!

Perhaps I should start a "Jetcareers Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval" to do a little fundraising?

Re: AWFA

Something I realized the more places I flew- truer words have never been spoken :

"Personally, I'd still run like hell when you're dealing with marketing and finance people rather than an off-duty CFI. "

Looking back at all the flight schools I visited, (with my knowledge now), the scummy/ripoff ones always had the 'used-car salesmanish' guy, not the CFI.

Re: AWFA

Usually when I do "covert ops", if I don't meet a CFI off the bat, it's usually bad news.

Re: AWFA

I took an intro flight somewhere not too long ago to scope out the place for someone who was looking to get into it and wanted a good opinion. It was great fun.

Is that what you mean by "covert ops?"

I'd be glad to sniff out BS in my spare time, let me know. I'm 22, and I suppose I can act like an eager wannabe airline pilot to accomplish the misson!

Man, I've always thought it would be cool fun to do that . . .

MikeD, would that qualify as an official mission under the SOP's of Air America-JC?

Re: AWFA

Seriously, do it, it's a lot of fun. And if you do, send me an email so I can put it all into a database.

Oooooh, I'm getting ideas about a new feature already...

this is DCA's latest scam. They try to rape the FBO students by suckering them in with this scheme. Run Away.

Seriously, I think it'd be a pretty awesome feature!

Imagine, if every CFI on the forum scoped out a flight school and we kept a running report of the results . . .

I'd even contribute to see that. Send in MikeD and MTSU and send the poor CFI's through the ringer and see how the schools respond.

"this is DCA's latest scam."

Anybody know how DCA profits from this?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, from what I posted from the website, you complete some of your ratings at DCA in coordination with the FBO.

[ QUOTE ]
Complete up to your Commercial Single-Engine at American Winds Flight School.

Complete your Commercial Multi-Engine and Instructor ratings at Delta Connection Academy in Orlando, Florida.

Return to your local Airport and build time as a Flight Instructor.

After 800 hours dual given, return to Delta Connection Academy and complete your Multi-Engine Instructor rating.

Actually I think DCA is giving these small schools a kickback if they hand them students. A little flight school I flew with for awhile here in Portland was all excited about this program.

DCA is doing this because it is one of the most profitable parts of the training market.

(these prices are well over a year old, so they are probably alot more by now

)
Commercial Multi - $7185
CFI - $7480
CFII - $3665
MEI - $5968

I noticed a Jet Connect link on Skymates website. What are they doing affiliatng with this scheme?

Re: You gots to be kidding.

"You want an MEI? I can get you an MEI by 2pm, I just gotta make some calls".

HFS, $6K for an MEI? If you've already got the CFI and II whipped, there's no reason to take any more than 5 or 10 hours for the add-on.

Re: You gots to be kidding.

No kidding. $6K? Skymates does them for $1295! ATP is pretty close to the same price, too. Unless you're getting your MEI in a Baron, it ain't worth $6K.

Personally, I think we should have a JC "secret shopper" group. Bunch of faceless guys that go into flight schools and check 'em out. Doug's gotten so high profile, he might need the help now.

Re: You gots to be kidding.

There kind of already are, but I could use a little help! In fact, if you get a little bored, PM me and I've got an easy mission for you that doesn't require travel.

Re: You gots to be kidding.

Just out of curiosity, what is the significance or the story behind that remark. I assume it is an inside joke of some sort?
