Well that was dramatic. Be interesting to hear in a year or so. Of course it looks like it uses Cessna seat rails so the Cessna Slide is always a possibility too.
Was also considering the possibility of the empty seat having a seatbelt strapped to the stick and holding it back, as is common practice for some tailwheel folks, as a kind of control lock.Control locks should hold the elevator in a pitch-down attitude
Based on a lot of accidents, some with video, that’s not always true.Control locks should hold the elevator in a pitch-down attitude
Yeah sorry I meant that in general, planes with control locks SHOULD have it pitched down. Just for those instances of dumb dumbs forgetting them.Based on a lot of accidents, some with video, that’s not always true.
Damn. I hope he died on impact.
Yeah, if he was in the front and the seat slid back would it pin the rear stick in the aft position?Well that was dramatic. Be interesting to hear in a year or so. Of course it looks like it uses Cessna seat rails so the Cessna Slide is always a possibility too.

Ah, I didn't actually look. Thanks for that. There's an instrument panel between the front and rear seats in the photos.
This accident at Fullerton CA. The rudder, elevator gust lock was in place. It was reinstalled by an over zealous CAP’er without the pilots knowledge.
The guy in the white shirt owned the Bushmaster, his fathers design. I’ve heard the story directly from him.
PERFECT for a taildragger!!! )Control locks should hold the elevator in a pitch-down attitude
A control check and a 360 on the runway is something I do every single time before I fly GA.I find it very hard to believe he wouldn't do a control check before takeoff.
EOD... I really, really hope this doesn't turn out to be another Eddie Andreini at Travis debacle. From the early reports, it sounds like it has potential to be.
A 360 on the runway? What’s up with that?A control check and a 360 on the runway is something I do every single time before I fly GA.

My first thought as well. He sounded rushed and was still on ground. Controller switched him to tower on the roll.Hearing that he may have been in a hurry given his abbreviated ATC communications. Also, it seems from camera angle that tailwheel does not rise at any time during his takeoff run which leads one to wonder if it was a control lock situatuion realized too late.
Once I'm on the runway at an uncontrolled airport I'm going before someone hits me. Takeoff and landing, I practice minimum time on the runway, it's not a safe place. To scan for traffic in all directions. I do the same at non-towered airports. Way too many surprises from people trying to fly the wrong pattern.

Agree and added to your statement....No argument here. For my money, the visual obstructions between airplanes and airports vary each time and it is the easiest way to spot the Wrong-Way, Non-radio-users, I'm-flying-so-get-out-of-my-way, I'm-priveledged-and-you-need-to-recognize-ME Corrigans.
