Sleeping on a deadhead?

Do you guys think it's unprofessional to sleep on a deadhead? I was starting to nod off yesterday, but kept thinking that somehow I was being unprofessional by sleeping in uniform on a deadhead.

Thoughts?

If you fall into asleep while on duty, that would be more un-professional than sleeping in the back. ;)

I've slept on a deadhead plenty of times. I don't see a problem with it. We have one FA at this company that is known for waking up sleeping deadheading crew members. Needless to say he doesn't have too many friends.

Has anyone told him it's ok for you to sleep while Dh'ing? If you have and he STILL does it, having no friends is what he gets! :banghead: I know I'm new at this but I never wake anyone up, unless it's for a cabin compliance issue. Some FA's are sooo over the top. :whatever:

I sleep all the time on my commute. When I'm up at 4:00am to make my commute to work, I'm usually asleep before we push back. There is nothing unprofessional about being well rested.

Why Not?I do all the time. In fact I look at it like an extra hour or so of rest. Does it specifically say somewhere that you cant sleep while deadheading? I know it says things like you can take off your jacket when deadheading, etc...BUt I dont recall saying it says you cant sleep....Do you sleep when on hot reserve? I say why not...

Hell, I used to take off the tie, put on a sweater and go right to sleep. I know guys that would take off all items that make them look like a pilot. No need to ansewer questions when only getting a fraction of what you should get paid.

Yes indeed! Thus I have my 'commuting fleece'. It is a nice looking pullover that doubles for comfort and being incognito. Not to mention it looks nice enough to ride in first class without looking like I am trying to climb a mountain :)

Two different issues people are talking about here...

Deadheading = on duty crew movement

Commuting = NOT on duty getting to/from work

I have no problem sleeping on either, but I don't think you can "deidentify" when deadheading.

Well, good to know.. I figured there was no problem with it, but I just felt like the passengers were looking at me thinking "he's a pilot! He can't be sleeping!" But then again I'm only a few days into IOE, and still in that phase where I feel like everyone is looking at me because I'm in uniform...

Nope! Not at all.

Now picking your nose or gawking at well-endowed passengers, yes.

Yeah, I've heard that rumor! :D And yes, I am a newly-minted FA but I haven't been invited up yet. :( Is there a secret code word I should use? :p

Start the flight with the drink selection for the CA: Coffee, tea, or me!:nana2: (can you name the movie that is from???)

Maybe ask Seggy, he used to be the FA for Colgan on his flights. ;)

Have you moved yet, or decided to stay?

Oh no! The intarweb hurt my feelings!

If somebody can get too bent out of shape because of a message forum, they've got some problems.
