SLC-CDG coming soon...?

DT, when are those 13-15 former TWA P&W 757ER's comin' online? I ask cause I see a daily AA P&W 757 into PHX a few times a day.

I always think to myself...shouldn't you be in DL paint already...

I think it's almost 20 or something like that. A couple are apparently in TPA undergoing mods.

Well, it's only about 10 1/2 - 11 hours after a little research on the internets. An ER could make that eastbound. Westbound it's a little over 12 which I think is reachable because ATL-SVO is darned near that long.

I have no idea what kind of range an ER has, you'll have to ask Staplegun about that.

They are currently configuring several (6?) ER's with bunk-bed rest facilities for over 12 hour flights... JFK-Tel Aviv & JFK Dubai are the rumors.

The ER can do LAX to CDG, but if it's over 12 hours on either leg then it takes 2 full crews vs. 3 man crew...

Been waitin' for ya Kevin. What took ya so long! :)

Funny story about the "Rockville Center Inn" -- I got on the wrong bus and went to "Five Corners" or whatever it is. A $25 cab ride later, I finally arrived at the Sunrise.

Talk about embarassing!

Doh!!

The Five Towns is a good alternative when the Sunrise is full. It's owned by the same family and they have free High-speed internet and the same commuter friendly rules; only differences with them are you need to confirm a late check-out when you check-in and their van doesn't go to LGA, only JFK...

Yeup. I'd have just stayed there but Kristie was patiently waiting at the Sunrise.

That's what I get for believing a flight attendant when she says, "Oh, that's what they renamed the Sunrise to!"

Delta Airlines to announce non-stop flights from Salt Lake City to Paris

Last Update: Aug 1, 2007

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - You may soon, for the first time ever, be able to fly from Utah to Europe without stopping!

Several sources now tell ABC 4 News that Delta Airlines will soon unveil a non stop flight from Salt Lake to Paris.

For years, it seemed like this European non-stop route would go from here to London.

But from what we're being told, it will instead be Salt Lake to France instead.

It's tempting to say that Delta would pick a non-stop to Paris because of the romantic allure of France.

But according to our sources, it may have been picked more for economic reasons.

We're being told that Delta will use the Salt Lake airport to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

This instead of the Heathrow Airport in London.

Paris is considered by some to be a better Delta hub than London.

Also, flying into Paris is said to gives travelers better access to the rest of Europe and others parts of the world.

Reportedly, these flights may not start until next year.

And while it might be a long flight - more than ten hours it could open the doors to both international trade or business and to tourists.

Not only might this international route bring money to the airport and Salt Lake, it could also protect Delta's presence in Salt Lake by making the city an even stronger Delta hub.

As for Delta, a spokesperson said that the airline may have an announcement in a couple of weeks.

-So DT, you want to move back to your old base if this thing turns out to be true?

:laff:

Max, you should know better than trusting a local TV station in SLC for your info. Seems like about every two years there is some story about offering international flights direct to Paris, London, Rome, Tokyo, Moscow, Ulaanbaatar, Tierra Del Fuego, or Olympus Mons. None of them materialize.

Come to think of it they were saying Moscow just two or three years ago, on ABC 4. I think its just wishful thinking by some bored reporter.

esp when your wife is waiting for you at said hotel and pilot shows up with another "lost" FA....i thought it was pretty darn hilarious myself knowing what "talking to" he thought he was gonna get..esp since he hasn't gotten lost before? hahahaha

lucky for him, i'm not quite like that ;)

Well...the media is STILL talking about it. Is it STILL not true, even w/ a Delta rep commenting? I never have any clue on how much to believe that they say since I know how much they've messed up on stuff before. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=1660009

Let's face it, there really isn't a sizeable international market in SLC. Yeah, grandma might fly to England once every 10 years, but I gather (and this is just uneducated babbling on my behalf) I gather most people would be connecting to go somewhere else.... Like LA.
I'm in no place to disagree w/ you other than the fact that there is a lot of big business in SLC and the surrounding areas. I don't know that the vacationers would be all that interested, but I could see a lot of businesses liking it.

(And sorry for bringing up a dead thread but I figured a few weeks old wasn't too bad...)

I think that maybe in this thread or another similar to it Dough said that if this is even possibly true. SLC wouldn't be a base, but similar to CVG meaning that they'd fly a plane direct from europe to SLC, and depart back to said european cities.

I didn't realize there was a difference? So they can fly out of it, but it's not a base? Isn't SLC already a base? Not sure what that meant.

That I can see during the Ski season.............................maybe.

But even then there just aren't enough "O&D" passengers for that to be realistic. SLC is called the "Crossroads of the West" for a good reason.

It's a hub, so yeah pilots and F/A's are based there. Similar to CVG, it's a hub, but it isn't an international bases/hub.

The widget only has three international hubs/bases ATL, JFK & LAX. Maybe four with CVG and the HNL flying out of there.

But me thinks that it's much the same as the international flying. Only they might arrive from JFK before going to HNL.

Dunno.

There is no international base in SLC. The trips would probably be flown by JFK or ATL pilots and would look like this:

6 day JFK-CDG-SLC-CDG-JFK

6day ATL-CDG-SLC-CDG-ATL
