SLC Blows!

LOL! Yeah, I was flying a trip up from St. George to eastern Idaho last night, pretty entertaining stuff listening to SLC Center:D

Speaking of St. George, anyone ever fly in there? I'm sure some of the Bro SkyWest peeps on here get to fly to SGU once in a while. The airport itself is pretty nice, but I think they build the runway the wrong way, it seems that there is always about a 90 degree crosswind with winds always gusting up to 35-40kts, which definitely makes for some challenging take-offs and landings:D

Im based in KSGU

And no they didn't build the airport wrong its just realigned with prevailing winds in a backasswardskindaway.

You did notice SGU is located on a bluff, right? The runway would be only half as long if they oriented it E-W!

I'm orginally from JAX and they are hands down 110 times better than SLC. Approach and JAX center are the best group of controllers I have ever dealt with.

Granted, they don't have to deal with aircraft icing situations and mountainous terrain, but the patience level and personality is definately there.

...it's good for the paycheck, as long as you've pushed back.

Or when you have had a two hour wait to take off, a PAX comes up to you and says I need to go potty when you are number three in line for take-off, going to ORF, you have to taxi back let them go potty, then get back in line :)

Well don't you or the gate attendants make announcements prior to boarding that the Beech doesn't have a lav?

The gate agents rarely do. I will sometimes, but I usually have other things to worry about than Mr. Smith's bowels. I assume, which I really shouldn't do, that they see there is no toilet, and that they would bring it to my attention, so we can let them off and take care of business.

Try Newark or O'Hare... 'nuff said.

I used to say bad stuff about O'Hare, but when I declared an emergency during "Discovery Day with the IAE V-2532!" they were really cool.

But Sewark. Man o man, but that's a busy airport.

SLC is moderately busy, but I'm almost certain to get a nastygram from someone who works in the tower, but I think they could benefit from a field trip to ATL or ORD

I would take being based in EWR or ORD/MDW any day over any other airports in the country. The controllers are just top notch. Even so, they are trying to stuff 10 lbs of shiznit into a 5 lb bag. Makes for an interesting day.

SLC from my little experience is like CLUBMED compared to ATL.
Example,
You know things are bad when your CEO is on the ramp driving around in a golf cart, pushing baggage carts, and apoligizing up and down about how "well run" for ease of language.....the ATL ramp really is.

That was interesting watching him come up the stairs....someone has put the pressure on the mgmt here?

Our push times are way late on a continuous basis and when there is a place to park once you get back....you have to get there first or it will be given away. Only to have to wait another 45 minutes for another or that one to push.

VIVA ATL!

I'm assuming you are ASA? You know they are just doing that so you guys look bad compared to SKYW and that way they can justify screwing you over some more with the contract talks because your ontime numbers are much worse then everybody elses.

As far as bad places? Ever seen PHX when they actually have to use the ILS? The ground ops are fine but I've never heard approach controllers sound so stressed out.

I fly thru ATL this month for the first time in more than a year. I saw the captain I'm doing the trip with and we're already haggling about who's going to do what! :)

when I do a pairing that takes me thru LGA and PHL in the same day I can literally hear the cash registers ringing.

A lot of our trips out of Dayton either start DAY-LGA-DAY-PHL or end with a PHL-LGA-DAY. I don't mind starting the trip with a LGA turn but it sucks to know you are going to get home late on your last day. The best I had was a few months ago with DAY-LGA-PHL-GSO-CLT-ATL-CLT. All I would have needed was an ORD turn to make my complete.
