SLC Blows!

What happens when you mix crappy controllers with a mass Skywest push with low time FO's making the radio calls? A frickin' huge mess at 7:30 p.m. in Salt Lake!

Geez... It took me nearly 40 minutes to go from the UPS ramp to Spot 26 tonight. Unreal.

Skywest FO's, learn how to talk fast, concise and quit stepping all over each other! This is a busy airport, so none of this "Uhh...Skywest 67A, uhhh, I mean 27J at spot....uhhh...8...uhhh...--beeeeeeeeep--...spot 12...taxi..." followed by "BLOCKED" Some of us want to go home and every long call you make can prevent a runway crossing.

I wonder when SLC is gonna figure out that at 7:30 p.m. its crazy busy with departures, arrivals and aircraft trying to reposition. Hey, I have an idea! How bout have a controller on EACH of the two ground freq's. What's the point of two if you aren't going to use them when its insanely busy?!?! Unreal.

Sorry, had to vent.

7:30pm? Crazy? If you want to see SLC Donkey Kong-style, try about 10am.

Citabriapilot wouldn't let me moon an RJ cockpit from the right seat of his Texas Tampon. :( ;)

It sure did suck tonight (more than the usual repositioning suckiness). Them switching runways and landing south made it worse, along with one person working both ground freqs. What a disaster.

My favorite of the evening was the airplane that landed in front of me:

Tower: "Skywest 1234, turn right A6, contact ground 133.65."
Skywest 1234: "Right turn at uhhhhhhhhh A6, and over to ground, Skywest uhhhhhhhhhh, thirty-, uhhh.... roger."

Forgetting your flight number after you've been using it for an entire flight- classic. How hard is it to form a coherent thought before you key the mic???

Oh, and who's the grandma with the stuffy nose? I'd like to thank her for adding an additional five minutes to our taxi time thanks to her inability to speak quick enough to allow more than just her airplane across the runway.

:banghead:

the old saying goes
Why is it so windy in Cedar?

Because Cedar blows and Beaver sucks

The other day some skyw fo chick was still calling upwind, crosswind etc etc in KSGU until some smartass tells her she isn't at riddle anymore on CTAF

Are you serious? Well her bad. Because she was flying a DP or a "missed approach" not flying a box pattern around the field.

Doooooh!

does anything compare to trying to fly airtran into La Guardia?

... Airtran 434 go park on a taxiway and shut down while we get all the legacy carriers out of here....

45 minutes later... air tran we got a slot for you....

Damn right, Took me about 30 minutes to get my clearance last friday ( at 10:00 AM ) And then about 20 minutes holding short of 35 :(

and guess what, I have to pay 85$ per hour for the damn plane. x-(x

That sounds like ATL every push. The 5 and 7 pm pushes are the worst because most of the international flights are now thrown in the mix

If I am waiting to long I set down. The 44 has a squat switch which stops the hobbs when there is weight on the skids. Monday at 10 it took me 45 minutes to get off the ground and I don't have to taxi anywhere. Clearance was swamped every time he came back, he got stepped on. He finally stopped all comms coming in until he caught up.

I was jumpseating on a Southwest flight out of SLC a few weeks ago that got hosed because they were unfortunate enough to get one of the gates that was controlled by the Delta Ramp. We had a 10am pushback and Delta Ramp Control wouldn't let us push for 40 minutes while they got out all the Delta flights.

Lame!

All I know is that I love baking in that 99 degree heat with the cabin door wide open on the BE99, and the hot exhaust gas blowing into the cockpit sitting at H10 waiting for a 5 mile seperation because some lamo controller needs to scratch their hemoroid filled butt between landing clearances and can't let us taxi across 34R!

SLC is one of the easiest hub airports to get in and out of.

Try Philly on any given summer afternoon/evening and get back to me.....

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but SLC controllers, mainly approach, kinda suck. Maybe it's just coincidence that everytime I go into SLC the controllers perform like it's their first day or have no desire to provide good service. Don't know.

Yeah, getting in and out of SLC isn't bad for a big hub airport, I agree with that. BUT repositioning sucks and so do the controllers. Seems like a training tower or something. They are either really pissy all the time or can't seem to keep up with what's going on.

It's not coincidence. They pretty much suck every day.

I love how every airplane at my company is /A and filed that way (well, all the ones they ever see), yet they still continually clear us direct to intersections. :banghead:

I haven't been to Philly enough to have a need to complain about them (and the few times I've been were in the middle of the night). I've heard they're pretty bad though.

totally disagree. SLC controllers are awesome. Never had a problem with a single controller.
My favorite controller is the clearance lady :D ( she has an eastern accent )and she ROCKS.

I think we're talking apples and oranges here; what type of aircraft are you flying and what type of flying?

LOL! Yeah, I was flying a trip up from St. George to eastern Idaho last night, pretty entertaining stuff listening to SLC Center:D

Speaking of St. George, anyone ever fly in there? I'm sure some of the Bro SkyWest peeps on here get to fly to SGU once in a while. The airport itself is pretty nice, but I think they build the runway the wrong way, it seems that there is always about a 90 degree crosswind with winds always gusting up to 35-40kts, which definitely makes for some challenging take-offs and landings:D
