Skywest?

Just a quick question if I jumps eat
on Skywest do I need a first class medical to jumpseat on u guys

There's no medical requirement for dispatchers, so you'll not need a medical of any class to jumpseat.

Thx just thought it was strange that he requested it and I explained I did not need it he would not let me jimpseat

He's probably got pilots on his mind. Pilots are required to have their medicals with them since they are considered "additional crew members" in some places. It's remarkable how many captains are genuinely unaware of their own airlines jumpseat policies, though there are those skippers out there that just don't want people on the jumpseat. Certainly their prerogative! I have found a vast majority though that are truly unaware will seek out the answer to whether it's okay or not.

For those curious about SGU and the surrounding areas... here is a nice video that shows it off.

The biggest complaints about SGU are the high cost of living, lack of non-rev availability and the Mormon influence. If you are the type that enjoys a drink or beer, SGU will be pretty depressing.

SGU is a small airport with flights only on Skywest regional jets. A ton of Skywest employees and their large Mormon families with decades of seniority over you will make it very difficult to non-rev out of there. The CRJ200 is very weight and balance critical on top of there being a good amount of pilot commuters makes the jumpseat difficult to use as a backup. Most people I know that live in SGU fly in and out of LAS or SLC and drive to SGU.

Except for the cost of living isn't that high, just depends on your mean of leaving. SGU is hard to non-rev out of, but Vegas is only about 2 hours away so its doable. SLC is a bit farther to drive to. You can drink beer here, you can get a drink here, it's sold in liquor stores and gas stations its not like its non existent.

Even when the liquor store is closed on Sundays Mesquite isn't too far to drive to pick up drinks 24/7 either.

A far cry from my home state of Louisiana with drive-thru daiquiri stands and liquor stores. :)

Yeah, I kind of miss the Nevada liquor rules - you're thirsty at 2 AM? Well, just drive down to the convenience store and get your beer. Or if you want to drink in a bar, the casinos are all 24/7. Perhaps it's just as well I don't live there anymore, now that I think about it.

Those are quite awesome I must admit! It's a wonder how there aren't more DUI's there...really you expect me to wait until I get home!?

We just have a higher tolerance for alcohol than everybody else. When I was in school it was legal to purchase alcohol at 18 years of age. You still couldn't drink it until you turned 21 but you could buy it at 18. I graduated high school in 1994.

That's fantastic! I'm just shocked that you don't get an open container DUI for even driving with it
