Skywest?

Thanks for the info. Seems most are part 121 and that is where the best opportunities are. What is the cost of living like in UT and sky west?

Cost of living isn't bad... fairly large 1 bedroom apartment is going to run you around 700.00/month. There are other options for housing that are more affordable... but overall it's not bad at all.. Overtime is always available so there is always the opportunity to earn more than the typical 40hrs/week.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Will keep that in mind as I move forward.

In the generally unstable world of regional flying, Skywest seems to be a pretty good bet in the short term. It's worth a serious look.

Yea that is the only reason I have even looked up life in SGU for non LDS members. Seems like if you go the regional route it's one of the better places to end up at. Then again, who really knows what the regionals will look like in the next 10 years.

Its in Utah. I can't think of a more boring place to live which is probably why it pays so well in comparison.

Nightlife in UT is boring but the outdoor activities are plentiful. I'm not LDS by any means and would consider living there. Cost of living is cheap in comparison to most other cities where the regionals and majors are at

You must really hate the outdoors... UT has some of the most amazing Nat'l Parks in the country, IMO. The hiking, mountain biking, etc is exceptional.
I love the outdoors. Its a big reason why I live in Florida. I've been to the desert areas of our country before. My previous employer was based in Vegas. Lots of nothing. Perhaps its just the absence of water and culture that makes it unappealing.

Still, I'm not crossing it off the list... :-)

Want night life? Aim your car southwest and drive for 2 and a half hours. America's Playground is right around the corner.

It's St. George, not Salt Lake City.

I can think of worse places to be by far. Like say, Cheyenne, WY... :stir:

Okay, I'll give you this one. Las Vegas was great, when I was 25 and single. Having actually lived there, I have had the "unique" joy of learning about it's complete lack of character as an actual city of people. It really is true; everyone there seems to be shooting an angle of some sort. I met a few people who were genuine, but they were almost all transplants for reasons not involving entertainment.

DEFINITELY some unique geology though. If hiking or 4-wheeling is your thing, you've found the perfect place.

If I got a job at Skywest, I would be seriously tempted to live in Mesquite, NV and commute - even if it's a 15-20 mile drive each way. But SGU is near some very cool outdoors areas...Zion, Bryce, north rim of the Grand Canyon - so yeah, there are worse places to live.

As far as LAS goes, while I kind of liked living there - and even bought a house in a suburb of it - I didn't miss it much after I left. In fact, my trip to the ADF Symposium last year was the first time I'd been there since 2005. I didn't hang out with many casino employees though.

Trust me... you don't want to live in Mesquite. You have to drive through the gorge and its really more like 45 mins each way. 1 accident and your stuck for hours upon hours. Not to mention, Mesquite? What a dump. lol

Huge fan of Bryce and Grand Canyon here... Amazing place. Have not yet been to Zion but hear it's amazing. If I ever want or need to get some regional experience, Skywest would be a major consideration for me. Spent a lot of time in Arches and Canyonlands as well - it's just a beautiful state.

Seems pretty affordable after digging in some real estate websites.
CPZ has a valid point...it's a dump. Super small town with the economy only relying upon the two dumpy casinos and the local Walmart. That drive through the gorge is pretty horrendous if you get a truck who takes a turn too fast or your local speed racer who didn't realize that turns can be hazardous to your health at 90 mph!

Real estate in SGU is pretty comparably to mesquite is if you drive a few minutes out of town. Just my 2 cents after living in Vegas, working in Mesquite and playing in SGU for a while

I am sure you are right about Mesquite being rather lacking in things to do....and I do know people who live in SGU and seem to like it. I also know a few people who have absolutely hated it. And, I imagine you wouldn't escape paying Utah state taxes by living in Nevada if you work in Utah...but I would still give it serious consideration.

Hey all, I haven't been on here in a while but thought I'd chime in. SKYCONTROLLER gave an accurate description of St. George. I lived there for 2 years, met my wife there, her parents live there still and I love it there. We used to do Vegas I under 2 hours. Amazing outdoor access to hiking, biking, climbing, etc. 1 hour from Brian Head Ski Resort.....I can tell you there's MANY worse places to live! Now that we're in the Memphis area, we REALLY miss it! HaHa Good luck to everyone!

As long as you establish residency in NV you will get all the state taxes back to you at the end of the year from UT. I actually did the same thing when I was commuting to LGB from LAS everyday with B6. That might be one advantage from living in mesquite but at the same time you may end up paying more in fuel driving through the gorge then you pay in taxes to UT. Double edges sword but I do see your point for sure!
