Skywest doing the branded thing?

ALPA national is semi-powerless. It's up to the individual MEC's at the airlines.

It's like a SnapOn toolkit. You can do damned near anything with a good mechanic and a great set of tools. Now if you're a 12 year old with no experience and an outdated Chilton's guide, it's not going to do much good :(

XJT's year 2 FO pay in 2008 will be the same as Skywest and still not flying around 86 pax. This needs to be corrected. I cant wait to see what happens with the CRJ1000.

Work rules. You can get paid twice as much as another pilot but get butt raped on work rules. QOL is fare more than "carrier A makes X/hr and carrier B makes X+Y/hr"

Eww, that's funny?! :) I guess in your young age, you haven't seen "Deliverance"?

Do you want one of those self-adhesive types or would you like me to have Mrs. Taylor draw you up something and make it real purdy? ;)

I didn't say 86 seat, I said DC-9-15 SIZED aircraft. I know you're running them with 72 seats in a multi class configuration.

I can't believe people actually try to justify this stuff just because they work there. If I were working there I'd be up in arms about it.

Should I bitch about how, a year from now, you'll be flying SLC-GPI (traditionally a SKW route) for less than me?

That is not a SKW route. That is a route owned by Delta that is flown by Skywest.

Not going after you zmiller just saying.

You get the gold star for finding the one pay rate (2nd yr FO) where SKYW pay isn't low. Bitch about flying a 90 seat plane for 50 seat rates.

Thanks for the star, but I wouldn't say that SKW pay is low compared to the rest of the regionals. It's not great for sure, but it doesn't help our cause that the majority of RJ operators have payscales lower than ours (not all, I know). Like Doug said and as I'm sure you know, pay isn't everything either.

I do bitch about the 700/900 rates plenty (which aren't the same as the 50 seat rates, btw),. They leave a lot to be desired, for sure, and there are people here that are trying to do something about it. But I'm just amazed at you guys who think that skywest is leading the pack to the bottom.

Because flying DC-9 sized aircraft around for $19 an hour is highway robbery, and with the history of Skywest you'll get paid $20 an hour to fly around a 737.

They might "treat you great!" but you guys are getting HOSED on your pay rate.
So why should I pay 2% of my salary to get a union to spend 4 years negotiating a contract and by the time it goes into effect I'll have moved on?

Besides, I agree 1st year pay is a little low, but if after first year the pay is very competative, especially considering that our work rules give us pay higher than many, if not most, regional carriers even though the base rate is lower. You can't just look at the hourly number, there are just too many other factors going in to what we get paid. As anti-union as SkyWest is, we can kiss those work rules goodbye if we vote in a union and will have to strike just to get things back the way they were. No thanks.

Why are all of you union carriers so jelous of what we've got at SkyWest?

Remind me to tell you about the "Queen of Sky" incident, the "DCA Issue" and the recent "Fun with Federal Air Marshals" story from last week where that 1.95% came in real handy in saving the other 98.05% when we can speak in confidence.

I'm not telling the last one on the internet though! ;)

How do you know that you will move on in four years? What happens if another 9/11 hits tomorrow. Also don't forget the increase to age 65 for pilots, that is going to slow things down considerably. Where do you want to go after Skywest?

The union will not change the work rules. It will remain the same.

Nobody is justifying anything. I don't think that anybody on here is giddy to being forced to fly around 900's. I'm glad that I only have to fly the dirty 50 seaters.

Also if you had the hours you probably WOULD be here instead of commuting.

I'm really not getting why everyone foams at the mouth over Skywest. Most people here is happy, and in every class there are people from EVERY other regional. I've talked with ASA guys who left 2nd and 3rd year pay and claim they are making just as much on first year pay at Skywest. So I would have to say that work rules do play a part.

Honestly, instead of bashing the pay rates, which aren't that bad, but they are what they are, it is important we encourage the Skywest guys and gals to vote for union representation.

Payrates/workrules at the regional level is the gravy ALPA can give. The meat and potatoes is the protection they give us in our careers.

VOTE YES!

Historically SAPA has done a pretty good job making sure we keep our jobs, and they are free.
