"Skipping" the Regionals

Re: One airline\'s view

"What was my point again? ha!"

Your point was good airline pilots started out as good pilots...then they got an airline job.....

Re: One airline\'s view

Yup. That was me! FA 416!

I got a King Air job and I thought I was too cool to be a CFI so I dropped out of the CFI course, took FA416 to gadgeate.

A few months later the job was kaput and there I was handing our resumes thinking that 500 hours, a ERAU degree and a pocketfull of turbine time was going to have corporate operators beating down my door!

Standing like "He-Man" with my resume above my head screaming "IIIIII HAAAAAVVE THE POWERRRRRRRR!".

Then reality struck and I moved to SFBay to work on my CFI & CFII.

Looking back at FA416, I'm sure glad my CFI appreciated the two cross countries from PRC to SNA and the check airman appreciated the 'checkride!'

All you were missing was the BMW with the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University rear window sticker and the license plate that said "ERAU PLT". That would've been cool.

I was going to take FA 416, but couldn't afford it, having barely scraped out for the CFI/I course. I never really used the CFI/I either........

Re: One airline\'s view

You never used the CFI, Mike? But you're such the kind, nuturing type of fella that'd be a good CFI!

*cough* I almost choked after that one!

"Altitude boy! You're getting into small arms fire range!"

"But Mr. MikeD, we're out in Cessna North!"

I've only got 18 hours of civilian CFI time. Mainly BFRs and I-currency.

LOL.........Cessna North.

"you call that a clearing turn? Let me show you a clearing turn......I don't want to see less than 45 degrees of bank!"

"Do you see your downwind displacement? Are we flying a C-141 or a C-172? Get your downwind closer......let's be the definition of "closed traffic, son."

"but sir, why is my XC today being flown at 500 AGL? And why do I need to terrain-mask?"

real life one here: (as student begins emergency spiral recovery at 800 AGL) "what are you doing? this maneuver isn't over just because you've spiraled down to here, it's only beginning. Now finish the pattern to touchdown."

"But it's a highway."

"you picked it, you land it. And make it a touch and go.........any monkey can spiral down to 1000 AGL.......let's see how good your planning really is end-game...."

Re: One airline\'s view

"....and when he passes to your left and you're aft of his three-nine line, you can quarter-plane with a climbing left pitchback to preserve your turning room and still maintain his six even if he decides to reverse on you and send you defensive...."

"But Mr MikeD, don't I just need to give way to the right since he's on my right, according to the rules of the road?"

"Grrrrrrrr."

At that time, and at the closure rates involved, a face shot likely will be a wasted shot, due to the the enemy being well within min range for the high aspect. Anymore, if the first time you pick up the guy is visually in a head-on, you're already too close.
