Situation in Brazil

Hello.

My name is Caetano Nascimento, 26 years old. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, but I moved to Portugal when I was 2 years old. My parents are Portuguese, they lived many year in Brazil and I still have Brazilian family.
Become a pilot was my dream since I was a kid and it's becoming real as I am almost done with my JAA ATPL course. I'm in a Portuguese academy but my flight training is in US, I still have to fly multi engine here in the US and then the last flight hours and MCC will be done in Portugal. Lets say more 2 months.
Brazil is my destination, not only because the market is ok but because I love the country, in my opinion Brazil is the best place on heart!!! I going to apply for a new Brazilian passport (I have 2 but out of date) and also apply for the Brazilian license.
After the conclusion of my course I thinking about hours building in US (multi engine) and jet orientation course in Germany or England. I want to be ready in September or October to start looking for a job.
I have also a mechanical engineering degree (5 years in a Portuguese university) what can be interesting for a company.
I hope I will find a job in Brazil, Azul would be perfect but in one aerotaxi would also be nice. I just want a place where I can start my life as a comercial pilot.

Good luck for everybody and see you in the skies.

how does hours flown in Brasil translate back to hour in the US? Ever had that experience?

I don't know how well ANAC and the FAA play together

If you hold a license in Brazil you can log all the hours you want, they will count in the US too. My gfs dad got an FAA ATPL based on hours flown in Brazil.

When I got my FAA CPL I used hours done in Europe for the req..it`s the same in Brazil.

ok sweet.

Just making sure if I ever get anything down there I can always come back just in case

Yeah it's a big Jump from America. I was lucky to move here with my gf, she is from Rio, her family is petty well off, her dad and Mom live in Paris, they don't really like it anymore here, they grew up in Rio, and things have changed a lot since they first left (they lived a bit everywhere). They come to Brazil a lot but just for vacation, but as far as aviation goes, things are going well here.

Well off = Loaded. Being rich in Latin America can be nice, there are the "haves" and "have nots." If you have, you'll live nice, have a maid, go to the country clubs and restaurants etc..but you still have to look around at the have nots.

I've lived in Brasil for 10 years and while this is pretty spot on, looking at the have nots isn't something bad

the class separation is so much that if they are poor, you don't even care. You look and just move on as if they cannot be helped and pretend you don't see it.

Very new york state of mind you worry about yourself and move on

hey guys its me again I'm almost getting ready to head to brasil for an attempt at a flying job. Any updates on the flying down there ?? I was talking to a friend who was a instructor here. He has about 800hrs applied at azul for like a year now but he said they haven't called for training or interview, something about azul waiting for more planes to come in. Azul has a huge waiting list, if you have less then 500 hours it will be hard to be considered, now it seems they want a jet transition training and some kind of aviation degree. My gf has been on the waiting list for 3 months now...

You can`t get your ICAO recognized for some reason (ANAC is stupid), so you have to take the test, when I applied waiting list was 4 months...

Remember to get your HS Diploma recognized at the consulate in the USA!!! THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT

Aerotaxi 1500 hours TT + , most corporate jobs are taken by airline pilots

I lived almost a year in Brazil now, and overall it has been a huge pain in the a**, if I could go back I would have stayed in Asia.

Things work crazy slow just because most peoples in charge of things are lazy, they are smart and know things they just don`t wanna work!

Life here as a foreign is a nightmare, the only Brazilians that have helped me are the ones that lived outside Brazil and know how it his to be a foreign.

Damn swiss I'm having second thoughts now. I already got my highschool transcripts recognized thats done. But now am wondering if I should go or stay and maybe just get my CFI CFII , or as a backup a&p. I almost have enough money for any of these 3 options . Going to brazil, CFI CFII, A&P mechanic and maybe part time cfi . Any suggestions..?? I really want to get the ball rolling on this thing, hopefully this year.

Things change fast, I`m in the US right now but technically working in Brazil. Things seem a lot better in the US since I left, almost 2 years ago. I have been doing some flying here and the CFIs I talked to seem happy. In Brazil aviation is growing fast, faster then the system. Airlines need pilots but they focus on pilots with lots of hours and a type...it`s not gonna last long and they will have to open the door to the many 150TT CPLs out there. The level of Brazilian pilots is really low, with your FAA stuff you will be miles in front of them....I will e back in Rio next week, but then I`m leaving for Europe until August, maybe we can meet up then. If you need any advice on flight schools, CFIs in the area let me know...I would stay away from the Aeroclube do Brasil ($$$$$$$), that new school in Marica and the other one on the field (they don`t have a twin anyway). I would go to Juiz de Fora, the school is a mess, but there is a good MEI guy up there and if you bother them long enough you will get your flights done, at ANAC try to talk to Tiago and say that you know Alex and Thais. Did you got in touch with Dimas for the translations?

Hey guys I was in Brasil 2 weeks ago I bought a CIV (Cardeneta Individual de Voo) is that the only log book they accept? Do they accept a Jeppesen logbook I would hate to have to re log everything!
