Well there is 3 flight schools that I know in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil the flying portion of your training it's usually done in an Aeroclube and the ground portion at an other school which usually does not have planes, they just do ground.
For the ground school there is a school at Santos Dumont, I think they also have a plane but I never seen it flying. An other school in Marica Sky something I can't remember now, I will look it up.
For the flight training there is Aeroclube do Brasil, it's on the other side of the mountain ridge south of Rio, there is a bus from Copacabana that goes there

http://openlink.br.inter.net/marica/ it's in a really nice place and you can stay there in pousada for cheap, fly in the morning and go surfing in the afternoon.
Aircraft rates are a bit expensive in the state of Rio, if you go to Minas Gerais, Parana or Mato Grosso do Sul, rates go down a lot.
For basic training they use this:

For instrument brazilian made pipers, like the turbo arrow, called corsico here.
Twins are expensive and usally pretty old Senecas and C310
