OP posts about wanting a second pilot for his single pilot jet. I say something like "owners probably won't bite on it, you may ask yourself out of a job." You "DISAGREE" with hiring a second pilot, and I'm paraphrasing here with "I don't need some stinking window licker that I'll have to check his work and mine" to which I replied with "than hire someone you don't have to do that."

Am I missing something here? I get that you may not be the responsible person for the hiring. But you are the responsible person in terms of the lives in back, and the first point of contact when a violation is coming down the chute, as the PIC. So, it's your responsibility to make sure that the person licking the window next to you, doesn't muck it up. That's why they call the "Pilot In Command".

I'm just trying to figure out why you're so upset.

I think what you missed was the post that essentially said "another set of eyes is worth the weight in the seat."

I suspect most of us with a couple years in the saddle have flown with a person or two that added to our workload because we always had to double check their actions.

No hiring process is perfect, and not every pilot has final say in who they fly with. It's simply the assumption that another person up front is automatically a safely improvement that doesn't jive. Often-times it's just easier to do it yourself than have to make sure "that the person licking the window next to you, doesn't muck it up."

Someone, other than YOU (not sure where you get that my response was directed at anything you posted) states, “Even if that pilot runs zero checklists, doesn't talk on the radio, and presses zero buttons, you're still coming out ahead.

I replied to THEIR statement, NOT anything YOU posted, something along the lines of…”I DISAGREE with hiring someone that fills the role as a “pilot [that] runs zero checklists, doesn't talk on the radio, and presses zero buttons........” I’m was (and am) stating that hiring this type is worse than operating single pilot and that I’m actually better off by myself.

To which YOU reply, and I paraphrase here, “Hire someone smart”.

And, while it IS somewhat funny, it hardly addresses my post. And then you add.....

You're making my point!! As the PIC, I’m stating that it’s much better to be alone than to have a “window licker”. I was NOT stating, nor have I ever, stated that flying alone is better/safer/prettier/smoother, etc. than flying with a competent pilot. I’m also stating that there are many situations where the “window licker” was hired by the powers-that-be and that the “PIC” just has to make the best of it. I’m sure you’ve seen them and flown with them in your career and there's nothing you could do about it.

Hell, I’m sure at one point in my life, I was the guy that smeared the window. I’m pretty darn sure that during my “try to hover” phase, maintenance needed a squeegee after we landed!!

Hope that clears this up. Again, not sure where you get that I was responding to your comment. I never disagreed with your post; your Cliff notes are incorrect.

P.S. I’m not even close to being upset about anything here….
