Sierra vs. Zulu

JordanD

Here so I don’t get fined
Is anybody on here using the Lightspeed Sierra? My POS headset gave out after only 4 years and I'm getting pretty tired of using the flight school ones. Is the extra $200 really worth it to get the Zulus over the Sierra?

the bluetooth audio and the lighter weight make it worth it IMHO! i wear mine 6hrs/day, 5 days/week and by day 4 it is starting to get uncomfortable, even after 5 hours it starts to get uncomfortable.

I almost went with the sierras to, but after finding no reviews whatsoever, and I fly 7 days 1-5+hours, I'm rather glad I have the lighter ones.

I listen to music, and cancel flight plans over the phone with them all the time. And I wear mine for hours every single day. I won't own any other headset other than the Zulu.

Well, that is until there is something better. Which the Bose are NOT.

Sometime I'm thinking about writing a review between the David Clark ANR, Lightspeed Zulu, Bose X, Bose A20. I'm a headset nut and fly with them all quite frequently and personally the A20 is my favorite. But there are pros and Cons to them all in my experience. I'll write about them when I get some time.

Between the Sierra and Zulu? Defiantly worth the 200 extra if you fly often to go towards the Zulu. If only a few flights a week/month then depends how broke you are. :P

There is something in there worth the $200 price bump. Headsets are one thing not to skimp out on. My roommate was caught in this exact dilemma a few weeks ago and ended up going for the Zulu's. I'm 100% sure he is satisfied with his decision and if you have to wear them all day, every day, then you'll want something that will hold up. I don't think the plastic headband will hold up all that well...

I did a demo with both for work and found the Sierras slightly more comfortable. Not as light weight, but it seemed to seal well and didn't get some strange humming when your head is turned. I'm looking to trade up my 15XLCs and halfway tempted to get the Sierras based on doing both. FWIW, I'm sure you can call up Lightspeed and get a demo sent out. I would NOT, however, buy the Flight Coms ANRs. David clamps, all over again.

AFAIK the headband on my Telex Stratus 50d's was plastic, never had any issues with the headband over 2000 hours of use. the ANR box however.......garbage

Dudes, we are talking about a three ounce between the two.

The power of suggestion is at play here, but that is my opinion and I apparently have a hard head :D

BUT BUT... Lightspeeds aren't TSO's... :pirate:

but the lightspeeds don't clamp the side of your head as well as my telex did, so all that weight will be on the top of your head. my telex was comfortable for 8hrs/day but with the lack of really any clamping on the zulus, they start to get heavy, so that extra 3oz would make a difference IMHO

Im currently starting flight school and have a set of david clark H10-20s looking to upgrade sometime in the future and im going to be flying a few hours 7 days a week for the next year and a half or so, I have heard so many different things between Bose A20. Lightspeed zulus and sierra. Im thinking about making the investment and not sure which ones. all help to a new pilot would be great! thanks!

contact light speed and ask for a demo set.

Holy necropost! Anyhow, I don't know how everyone's battery holds up with Bluetooth music, but it absolutely drains my phone. That said, I use the patch cord and it works great.
