Sierra vs. Zulu

David Clamps? Toughen up, buttercup. Closing in on 7000 hours wearing my H10-30s, and my head hasn't exploded yet. Total Cost? ~$200 (purchased new in like 1991) + $25 for new ear seals in ~2005. Now, take the ~$750 you saved, invest it over 20 years, and you've got a freaking car. Plus you'll never be without a headset because the Blue Teeth broke or whatever.

Now, get off my lawn!

Candy-Arse! RealPilots don't use headphones, they want to hear the roar of their engines to really be one with their flying machine.

One of the rotor-wing guys I work with grew up flying Commander 500s in the Old Days. He still thinks headsets are for Nancies, and if I had anything but an old blue one, he probably wouldn't talk to me.

Well, really, it's more like shout at me and cup his ear...

Whatever gramps, some of us actually work for a living instead of snoozing/watching Teen Mom and waiting for the phone to ring. Lemme tell ya, after 6+ hours and 12+ legs in an oldass piston single with leaky doors and windows and minimal soundproofing ANR is a blessing.

Roger I forgot to compliment the sweet sweet beard.
Calling Boris a pansy. :)

You sir are well on the way to becoming a disgruntled Alaskan pilot.

Congrats!!!

I remember a 20 some thousand hour guy giving me the same speech once. The ironic part was that he was losing his medical because he lost his hearing. But he sure did like his David Clarks.

Several months back I traded in an old and slightly broken pair of 15xl's for the Sierras. It set me back around $300 or so and I think they retail for 2x that amount. I have no serious complaints. I wear them on long flights and typically have them on my head for 4 to 6 hours a day. I don't notice the weight and they don't clamp or annoy me. The ANR works fine for an RJ and they are quiet. The blue tooth only works with phones I think, but there is a jack for I-Pods etc. . . . . Of course no one in the 121 world would listen to music while flying, so what is the issue here? :) I believe the headband, while plastic on the outside, has a metal frame inside.

To me the differences are small enough that I went with the less expensive option. $900 to $1000 for a headset is still too pricey in my book.

Either way if you can do a trade in it will be helpful to your wallet.
