For people based at large airports, how long does it take to renew your SIDA badge? Do you (contractually) get any pay for doing so?
 
Renewal at ANC is pretty quick. Just go in and sign some stuff as I recall. When I got it initially it took a couple hours and I did not get paid for it.
 
We have to watch a series of training videos every year at the main terminal and then show the completion paper to get our renewal. Can take a hour to three depending on how busy it is that day

I don't get SIDA now, but when I worked the ramp it was 2hr with another hour for driver training renewal
 
As a ramp worker for QX in SEA and a contractor at GEG it was paid time from the company. As a pilot at HNL I don't remember doing any SIDA training
 
I’m still bitter getting fined $25 for not renewing mine on time in DTW. Got my initial one in September and they said it’ll expire in November because that’s when my birthday is. But being a commuter and on reserve I kept getting called to work and I never was able to make it over before November ended. They charged me a fine for renewing it in December. Wtf?! My CP even came and asked me wtf was up with them.

I don’t drive to ORD so I don’t need one. They just changed the process for the badging though and I’ve heard there is a :45 minute training video and test.
 
I let mine expire and didn’t renew it because I wasn’t based there anymore.

Several years later when I resigned my seniority the chief pilot wanted my sida badge from the other base back.

Oops. I had no clue where it was because it expired several years ago so I had to pay a lost sida badge fee which they took out of my last paycheck.

In short sida badges are a hassle if you don’t really need one.
 
I held an LAX badge for a few years, it was a pain in the ass. It was a lot like getting paid to go to the DMV, they had a lounge for people to sit down and watch mindless TV while you wait for your number to come up. Maybe that was too harsh, it was better than the DMV, and I was getting paid. The problem was the building you had to go to was in between the two "complexes" and getting there and finding parking was never a walk in the park.
 
Things move a lot faster when you work an essential job at the airport and let your badge expire creating a critical staffing situation. Normally you are supposed to get paid for the time, though it may take some nagging to HR.

It depends. Some airport employee parking requires a SIDA to access it, while other airports do not. Getting to the crew lounge also may or may not require one. One airport I was based in required a SIDA to get to the crew room. But when I wasn’t based there I could access the same room through the same door with a unique pin code. But the minute I’m based there, my code doesn’t work so I’m required to get a badge. I just never went to the crew room that month.

So true! When I got mine they totally skipped my number. They made me get a new number and wait again till it was called! I have escort, Customs, and driving on mine. You have to schedule each add on separately and show the same damned documents each time. For driving you have to do so many hours of driving and fill out a form. No video for driving and test is actually written scranton. Out of all the SIDA badges I've had, LAX has been the biggest pain in the ass! Can't wait to give it up in March!

Standard Aero has closed at LAX now and as far as I know there are no MX services for the non airline/cargo folks that still fly in there, it must be an absolute joy trying to go there as a mobile tech to try and fix a broken airplane. I worked for Standard Aero doing mobile service and it took an act of god to allow our truck onto our property to load/unload the few times we actually needed to.
 
Ah ha ha ha! Finally someone else has to endure the BS at HNL badging office. By far one of the worst organizations I’ve had to deal with and I’m a FO that has to endure a lot of bs on a daily basis
