Shorts 360 Cargo First Officer (500TT multiple bases)

Are there any runs that are unpopular with pilots? Are the DHL routes preferred to the UPS ones?

Different folks want different things out of a base, so it just depends what you want.

DHL runs have a big advantage on schedule, but it's a three pilot rotation (2 CA/1 FO) so you'll occasionallyfind yourself in the right seat as a captain there (and therefore be logging SIC time).

UPS into SDF tends to have the shortest sits in the hub. Our West Virginia bases are slightly longer duty days, but even they only spend around 3-4 hours in Louisville before turning around and going home.

UPS into CAE tends to be shorter flight times with longer srays at the hub, but most of the crews sleep while they're there. The result of which is that they can stay on a somewhat normal sleep schedule and live their waking hours during daylight.

Puerto Rico basing just depends on how you view living in Puerto Rico. With the winter coming up, 80 degrees and beaches doesn't sound too bad, does it?

We have one base that sits standby in KLCK to bring planes out to any base that runs into a maintenance issue that can't be fixed in the amount of time necessary. The Shorts doesn't really break, so those guys don't fly much at all. If you like Columbus, Ohio though, you're in luck.

Have you tried Wiggins? I was thinking for their EMB-110 and maybe some of their BE99 routes they might want an FO to help with the loading and unloading of the plane and then to hire on when they get 1200 hours as that's somewhat common in the freight world.

How much flight time do you have? I know you might be able to get on doing some marine mammal survey flights with 500+TT in central NJ if that's something you're interested in.

I know Ameriflight does some runs out of Buffalo in the EMB-120 and like to have FOs for their routes. I'm not sure what other ones they do in the NE, but they might be worth looking into.

Can you reply or send me a Pm about the gig in central jersey? I am over 500tt csel.

Thanks!!

Hey mr CJKelly....
Did you guys figure out what happened to the guys in the Caribbean a couple yrs back?
I used to be based in SJU and watched you guys bustin a move...Looked like fun.
I read about the shorts going into the water after I had left..So I guess that was late 2014 or early 2015....Very sad to hear. Im sure I must've seen that bird a zillion times on the ramp at SJU

Looks like a Skyway plane.

What are the ME time requirements? I have 400 hours TT. I'm working full time doing aerial photography of farms. I should have the 500 by the end of September. I have 1.3 hours ME and no ME rating, yet. I plan on getting the ME after the photography season ends at the end of September or October.

No idea of the exact requirements, but the class date is very soon and if you're willing to move to whatever base they want you at you can probably get hired on if they have any openings. I'd apply anyway as I think someone with much less than 500tt got an interviw too.

I would apply, but like I said, I don't have the ME rating, yet. You say "the class".... is there only one class?

Sorry, I didn't read your entire message all that well and didn't notice that. It looks like a big class and who knows when the next one will take place. I'd wait to apply for when you have your multi, but who knows what's right.

For FO applicants, commercial multi and instrument airplane is enough for consideration.

The September 8th class is captains and FOs together. Sounds like it's currently three each, which is good news!

What the chances of getting IAH?

Right now? Zero. The bids filled immediately, and the most junior person on either DHL run has 11 months' seniority. But, people have gone straight to those runs out of training before. It just depends on openings and company needs.

Cjkelly42, Mike5250. I've PMed you both with some questions. Looking for something in the Mid-Atlantic to put my 600TT 300+ME to use.

Is this company still hiring? The link states they would post on Climbto350, but I didn't see a post . I have about 510 total time and do wish to eventually fly cargo, would be a great start here.

They had a post like on the 10th or 11th of August on climbto350. I'm not sure if they're still looking as the class was supposed to be this week. If you've got 510 hours a season of Picto might be enough to get you up to 135 minimums and the season's about to start.

Are there any CASS agreements? I assuming there is no commuting with the schedules?

Possibly, but I don't know what you're expecting for out of a freight job where you're working 5 days a week and you're going to need a place to crash for at least those 5.

It's understandable, 5/2 isn't commutable. Relocation isnt off the table by all means.

Look into aerial survey if you want to commute as some of the outfits that require 500+ time offer commutable rotations. If you don't have a serious GF, wife, kids or sick relatives there's little reason not to chase the time and money. Build the time quick and you can commute once you have the time to get to the regionals.

Yes, we are a full member of CASS. You can also enroll in KCM. We also have some agreements with a couple of the EAS carriers that operate in the region.

However, with the schedule the way it is for most of our runs, using these benefits can be a challenge. Some of our folks make it work though.
