Are there any runs that are unpopular with pilots? Are the DHL routes preferred to the UPS ones?
Different folks want different things out of a base, so it just depends what you want.
DHL runs have a big advantage on schedule, but it's a three pilot rotation (2 CA/1 FO) so you'll occasionallyfind yourself in the right seat as a captain there (and therefore be logging SIC time).
UPS into SDF tends to have the shortest sits in the hub. Our West Virginia bases are slightly longer duty days, but even they only spend around 3-4 hours in Louisville before turning around and going home.
UPS into CAE tends to be shorter flight times with longer srays at the hub, but most of the crews sleep while they're there. The result of which is that they can stay on a somewhat normal sleep schedule and live their waking hours during daylight.
Puerto Rico basing just depends on how you view living in Puerto Rico. With the winter coming up, 80 degrees and beaches doesn't sound too bad, does it?
We have one base that sits standby in KLCK to bring planes out to any base that runs into a maintenance issue that can't be fixed in the amount of time necessary. The Shorts doesn't really break, so those guys don't fly much at all. If you like Columbus, Ohio though, you're in luck.
