Well that's the last time I share wardrobe secrets with you guys. I was gonna tell you all about the zip tie, but now there's no way....
I was zip-tie before I went clip-on!
Don't get me wrong, I have a sense of style, but the clip on is pure security.

People rag on me for the zip tie, but quickly learn when they're trying to tie a regular tie in the little cockpit door mirror.

Nothing wrong with the zip tie. If you are worried about it getting yanked by an irate pax then you can just cut the back and add a little bit of velcro. One tug and it's off just as easy as a clip on. I personally can't stand the feel of clip on.

Just a different take on the loafer vs non-loafer argument. In the past I was told by a DE, In the event of an emergency evac you are less likely to have a problem with shoes falling off if you wear laceup shoes. Made sense then and still make sense now.

No one mentioned Born? I love Borns, comfortable, stylish, decent prices considering they last me a couple of years (i go through shoes pretty quick)
Then again I fly freight and our only dress code is to wear our company shirts, otherwise really anything goes as long as it is ok publicly

Ecco Helsinki slip-ons. It's a comfortable, durable, versatile shoe. We'll see how it handles 135 freight 5 days a week... I don't know why pilots bother with laces anymore.
I've always been a fan of Docs. I had a less fashionable slip-on than that when I was doing corporate flying a few years ago. They're durable and comfy, but the soles are heavy (I find). Having switched to the Eccos, I don't know that I could go back to Docs for the same application.
I don't understand what about that shoe makes it "for clubbing". I think professional pilots of any operation generally want a shoe that can pass for business casual but also has a real durability to it. We're not walking around a carpeted office all day. Sometimes you gotta kick chock out from underneath yer wheel in slushy conditions. I bet the Docs would do really well in that environment.
