So, I know what it means, but do pilots who regularly fly through a certain airspace and/or recognize a controller's voice ever say it, not thinking about it and they just really mean talk to you next time?

It got said to me and I was like.....Wut?!?!?! :aghast: I'm 99% sure I didn't screw him lol! Maybe I did once and he was holding a grudge?? haha
 
Oh yeah. Especially when you're doing hub stuff. I recognized the IAD controllers by voice, one actually ended up Facebook friends with a large amount of pilots at our base, though it helped that she's married to a pilot so that helped bring the two circles together.
 
LOL. I used to say this or talk to you next time regularly when I flew freight through the same airspace with the same controllers every night. Don't think more of it than the pilot either is through there regularly or recognizes your voice. Unless he asks for your number or to mark the tapes, you're good.
 
Ha thanks! Ok I feel better now. A different facility I worked at had some overflights that we'd hand off to an approach and then get them back 30 miles later and we'd say, "talk to you on the other side," and then would think, hmmm might want to rephrase that lol

I say it all the time, someone just pointed it out to me the hidden meaning and I've felt bad all week. I wouldn't take it to mean anything, apparently I've been insulting controllers I work with routinely for years... :(

As a controller who has used this just one time, I assure you our tone of voice will make it clear which way to interpret it.
 
"Great Day" in BOS or all the JFK Controllers... I regonize all the same voices as I track all over the system. And I have kind of a distinctive Goooooooooood Morrrrning Vietnaaaaaaaaam kind of radio voice too. I can see if you do the same thing, over and over, it becomes a community even if you try not to make it one.

I know who you're talking about...she's been at ORD for 1-2 years now.
 
Ha. I said catch you next Tuesday once in a conversation just to watch the pause and mental math to see if I was slinging an arrow.
 
I've noticed:

Regional pilots always seem upbeat despite being regional pilots and usually sense of humor

Lufthansa typical German efficiency

Women pilots never check in with the ATIS

AAL are the grumpiest bastards ever and will never tell you they're slowing to 210 30+ miles away from the airport

BAW never asks for anything, they just tell you what they're going to do regardless of what us peasant controllers tell them to do.

There's a 50/50 chance of Mexican corporate pilots flying the SID.
