See ya'll later

Paris smells, the keyboards are whack, and I do not speak French. Come on Vienna!

[/ QUOTE ]oh comeon.. open your eyes!! learn a little french...they learn english to work with us over here - least you can do is learn a little french along the way...enjoy the coffee and remember where you are - NOT america!
wink.gif

enjoy it and the differences...it takes a bit to get used to the keyboards but what are you there for - vacation or talking on the internet? hahaha

the problem when people go to a different country is that they don't (for the most part) try to get into the culture...try to experience life in that culture...experience new dishes & learn the language.. that's why some europeans call us "ugly americans". you can't expect everyone to speak "your" language when your in "their" country.

Re: See ya\'ll later

Non-mersi (sp?) is good to know for all of the entrepreneurs who try to sell you random trinkets near the Eiffel Tower.

Knowing the numbers came in handy at Disneyland Paris so you could tell them how many in your party for the rides ... interesting to be in France at Disneyland Paris, and the ride warnings are in English ... was nice to hear a familiar language for a bit.

DC Metro doesn't really smell like piss.

Re: See ya\'ll later

so do the italian metro stations.. more than most because we actually SAW people adding to the smell in Italy!

Re: See ya\'ll later

Ich spreche Deutsch und Emily spreche die french, und ich habe kein Idee was ist geschehe. Oder...

I speak German and Emily speaks French, and I have no idea what is happening.

But the crepes were amazing!!!

Re: See ya\'ll later

good morning from paris (our hostel has free internet which is why we're on here a lot). I'm waiting for john to get out of the room so we can skeddadle. We're heading to the bakery up the street this morning for breakfast and then to the louvre, notre dame, and champes elysee afterwords.

John doesn't speak any french and I'm managing (somehow) to squeek us by on my meager french that i learned 6 years ago, but so far at 2 different resteraunts they handed us menus in english before we even asked. I guess we look "american" or something? or perhaps they just heard us talking...

the tube stations in london didn't smell like piss, so i don't know what's going on there that isn't in other areas

Re: See ya\'ll later

BTW Thanks for all the hints you guys, it helps when we do not know crap about a city!

Re: See ya\'ll later

The Louve is HUGE. If you really don't have all day, I'd suggest the Orsay. There are also some pretty good restaraunts nearby too, but they're 'tres cher' if you're not careful!

Did you guys try La Bousquet near Champs de Mars?

Re: See ya\'ll later

What hostel? When I was in Paris, we were in a hotel for a week, and when everyone went back, two of us stayed a couple of extra days and stayed at a hostel for a pretty good rate ... the Aloha Hostel ... don't know exactly it's location.

If you're up for some exercise and have time, hit up the Cathedral ... Sacre Cur (sp?) for some nice views. It has a bunch of good food places up and down the streets below.

Re: See ya\'ll later

and don't forget to visit the one and only "original" statue of liberty!! it's about a 10 minute walk down the south side (left) of the river from the Eiffel Tower. it's at least a good 10 stories tall, I think.

Re: See ya\'ll later

Lemme put my doofus voice on "Whuh? Sta'TOO of liberty from France? Naw naw, that's 'Merican built with good 'Merican know how!"

Well they used to, back in the day before the fire at Kings Cross station shook things up a bit.

shook things up a bit?

Fire in a tube station is a little 'exciting' wouldn't you say, babe?

Oh, and btw... Mind the gap please, mind the gap. Next stop, 'Embankment'

Re: See ya\'ll later

well, we missed the original statue of liberty, but we ended up picnicing infront of the eiffel tower (romantic or some [censored])

we stayed at the Hotel Caulaincourt, which is about 10 mins from Sacred Heart. Aloha hostel was full, but this place has been good, pretty quiet which was nice so we could get a good night's sleep.

we're leaving to go to vienna this evening, so we may or may not have internet access, so, peace n' love, and au revoir, ciao!

Yeah - since the fire, there is no smoking anywhere on the London Underground system and a relatively low incidence of piss-smell. But if you are going to relieve yourself, make sure you miss the live rail !

I used to change trains at Embankment all the time. "Mind the Gap" is at Bank station, not Embankment. Close though Doug!

Re: See ya\'ll later

We just got into Vienna and we are going to do lunch with a JC lurker here in about 20 minutes. It's nice to have everything in a language I can understand, but Emily is going nuts.
