Second day of Airbus 330 school

The instrumentation is light years ahead but the FMS ehh, kind of a challenge.

It's the one really different thing. Offset is only available at L1, btw. :) Lots of clearing to get to the anchor point. Having flown the CRJ which had the to/from FMS, it wasnt much of a jump. Once I figured out that up is down... that cured most of the headaches haha.

In three freaking years (granted only 350+ hours in the 3 years being the slug I am) on the beast, I still have to think too hard to know which damn arrow key to press to get it to move the flight plan the way I want it to go. I much prefer "next page"

My favorite airbus stupidism is that you can can select a radio to talk on that you arent listening too. amazing. Even in a C-150 you cant do that on.

So I can assume the guys who check in on a new frequency without listening first are just Airbus pilots and not d- bags ?

And they select "out" rather than "in".

The pages work like the iDrive so I can kind of rationalize it somewhat.

I see you're doing your currency ride this weekend, enjoy!
No, its actually CQ this week. Currency was three weeks ago....and then three months from now, repeat as necessary

Cool, well enjoy your weekend and watch out for the crackheads on Virginia Avenue. It was mostly vagrant-free last week.

Need a place to put your beer that's at least 8 inches away from the throttles, right?

"8 inches, bottle to throttle!" <-- Isn't that how it goes?

Bottle to throttle means holding your beer with you thumb, pinky, and ring finger, while the other two push the levers.

i guess the joke went over your head. I suppose you are used to that by now

Have you figured out why there's a steady supply of fecal material in your V-File yet? That's not some mischevious Civet cat. :)

I think the dispatch reliability on the 330 scosche better than "Sparky".

I think Boeing's finally worked out all the issues. Hopefully. Besides the 787-9 is the variant to beat and will offer the most range. I'd think it was a slam dunk. But I don't even think DL has an 787 orders. Northwest did, but I think DL may have converted those orders to 777.

There are like 16 or something options that we've deferred to 2019ish. Waiting for the teething problems and the -10 to come out.

-10? Cool. Didn't know that too many US carriers were interested (I think UA ordered some). The-10 always sounded more of a plane for the Asian market. I figured that with it's shorter range/fly more people plane. After the mistakes of the 767-400, which it's meant to essentially replace DL would have been like thanks, but no thanks. Besides the -9 is the variant with the most range of the entire series. What the hell, get both the -9, -10. The 787/A350 are the future of commercial aviation.

Delta's interested in the -9, not the -8, or -10

Could have sworn I heard RA say at one of the kool-aid meetings that if he could have the -10 today he would take it. I know he doesn't like the 8, and I don't rememeber hearing him mention the 9.
