Going with Max on this one. No way the two largest legacies merge. They'd have to divest so many routes that Delta and SWA would make out like bandits. There's no upside for either company.

More likely Kirby was headhunted by UAL with promises of maybe being groomed for CEO, whereas, if he stayed at AA, he'd never replace Parker.

Some articles are saying he was terminated. Who knows. Either way he gets paid.

You do know a certain place I may or may not work at was bought by a legacy airline, and that once the DOJ approves (Sept-Oct timeframe) and the deal closes, the airline I may or may not work at the CEO will step down?

She's talking about what happened at United happening at another airline, not an already announced orderly transition.

I want to know what he did to result in termination, if that is indeed what happened...

OR

I want to know what a happened to split up Parker and Kirby after 20 years.
 
Only in management can you absolutely screw up, be a screw ball, or all of the above, and still get to advance your career. That whole saying about "screw up to move up." Of course us lowly pukes on the line would be fired for performance-related issues.
