AA and UAL will merge. I'm calling it first.
Figures. United has like 12.5k pilots, will lose 3k or so in the next few years and wants to grow to 16k pilots. American has like 15k and will lose 7K or so to retirements in the next few years. 9K plus 7k = 16k at the new Unican Airways. Everyone at a United or American regional is stuck for another decade. Looks like the old career goal post is going to get moved again.

Some articles are saying he was terminated. Who knows. Either way he gets paid.Going with Max on this one. No way the two largest legacies merge. They'd have to divest so many routes that Delta and SWA would make out like bandits. There's no upside for either company.
More likely Kirby was headhunted by UAL with promises of maybe being groomed for CEO, whereas, if he stayed at AA, he'd never replace Parker.
I can think of one airline CEO who will be looking for a new job in the next ~1-2 months.

You do know a certain place I may or may not work at was bought by a legacy airline, and that once the DOJ approves (Sept-Oct timeframe) and the deal closes, the airline I may or may not work at the CEO will step down?
