"Schoolhouse" Rumor

Long gone. I think maybe by 2010? Mokulele is just Caravans now and pose the single greatest hazard to inter island flying, just beating out the general incompetence of HCF.
It's horrible when HCF and the caravans get together.

"Moku 332, traffic 2 o'clock same altitude converging speed buggy."

"HCF, we only see traffic at 10 o'clock."

"Oh yeah that's the direction I meant"

:bang:

I'm on a rampage about correcting them now because I got a pilot deviation filed against me (about 65% my fault to be fair). Yesterday approach cleared us direct EVEVE (right in the channel) and 1500 feet and then tried to pass us off to tower without ever issuing an approach clearance. This was after both times going in to Maui they tried to turn us on the localizer at the last minute and both times we went through it before they could give us a turn. They blamed it on the 5 knot tailwind.

And don't get me started about how they call out traffic that is 30 miles away but routinely forget to tell us about the traffic that is 3 miles away.

Oh well... it's the islands mange... so who cares right?

They hand out pilot deviations like a pedophile hands out candy to children. I had a captain that got one for a flight he wasn't even on. Apparently they said all of our aircraft had pilot deviations leaving Lana'i. He fought it and they pulled tapes, radar tracks and his work schedule to finally drop it.

I think controllers do it as a CYA measure when something goes wrong.

Some of the worst controllers in the US are in Hawaii, I dunno why but that was my experience when I flew for PW

They get
How often (if ever) do supervisors actually work traffic? Just wondering.
They get their currency (8 hours) normally on a midnight shift, but they are the ones who tell us to giver Brasher Warnings to pilots. For the most part (unless you did something really stupid or dangerous) it will stop with the controller. Probably receive a stern lecture and that is all unless the sup tells us to issue a number to call...
