Scary: Early Outs at Delta

What??? But, but you're a 121 airline Jet pilot!!!

There are many SJSers disappointed in your statement. :)

Nah not the profession, just been in this weird mode where either I'm working, swapping trips, bidding or commuting!

Do you regret the decision to commute? I'm thinking about becoming a commuter soonish (moving to a place that's guaranteed to make me a commuter) but it's still in the air.

Knowing some of our more senior guys, probably cardiologist appointments.

Not really, there's no base which I have any interest in living. And the ones that I would live in I dont make the kind of loot that would make it palatable.

They out to just call it "Come on Northie! You've got that pension, no need embarrassing yourself as a 64 year old FO!" :)

You moved up a number after the merger thanks to me. I was one of 51 that took the early out in Aug '08 and was under age 60...see it still happens.

"Here's $100K a year until you die, and S3B instead of S3. Wanna retire?"

Yes.
Some retirees have S2B passes (perfect attendance) going ahead of you active duty guys. But hey you don't mind since you moved uip a number...right? Just returned from two weeks in southern France...life is good.

Oh, although I entered this conversation, I'm not even an S3, I'm an outsourced low-priority type, so I didn't move up a number. :)

Sounds like you are enjoying retirement!

I keep my S2's like a Ninja sword!

"HiYAAAA! Enjoy coach!" :)

That's pretty much what I expected... it really wasn't all that great a deal. I hope the guys who took it have a great retirement (that's not sarcasm, I really do wish them the best).

Do you think this is going to result in any hiring? Or will it simply serve to help balance the reduction of Atlantic flying?

One could make a valid argument for either case. I really don't think they know yet. My opinion is that if they do it won't be before this time next year and it would be a small number on par with this past year's hiring.
