You know it's scary when you almost qualify for BOTH:

I'm 40 with almost 14 years...

On May 3, 2011, the MEC unanimously ratified LOA #28 – 2011 Voluntary Programs.

As a review, last month, the Company informed ALPA of their intent to offer certain Delta employee groups two voluntary early separation programs designed to reduce staffing this fall as part of its plans to offset the impact of high fuel prices. Both programs are patterned after the same type of separation programs offered to non-pilot employees in 2009 and provide the ability for an eligible employee to voluntarily retire early or resign from Delta with certain benefits.

The two programs being offered are:

--55-Point Program – for those employees who will have completed at least 10 years of service as of December 31, 2011 and whose age plus number of years of service total at least 55

--Early Out Program – for those employees who do not qualify for the 55-Point Program but who will have completed at least 5 years of service as of December 31, 2011

Based on current information in Delta’s human resources records, you are eligible for one or both programs. If you are interested in participating in the 2011 Voluntary Programs, please see the attached document, which was also e-mailed to your Delta.com e-mail address.

Please review the attached document fro Delta (as well as the documents referenced within) carefully before deciding whether to participate in the 2011 Voluntary Programs

Do it. Doooooo it.

You know you want to put away the 767-300ER over the pond, and move up to a C-123 down low over the S. American jungles dropping hard-rice bundles.......

Dude, if the money is right I'd do it! It'd be nice to follow my destiny of being a pilot rather than an FMS manager, cruise director, magazine reader, perpetual bidder and chicken/beef/cold plate eater!

Soo if they don't get enough people - or pilots I should say, to take the program does that mean they will start furloughing again??

What happened to the pilot shortage?

Is it over already? LOL!

I bet they just want to get rid of the folks on the top end of the pay scale. Watch them start hiring right after.

Are many considering taking this on the pilot side? My uncle a TWA guy took the AMR buyout in 02.

Of course they do. What would be the point of getting rid of the lowest paid people? The idea here is to reduce expenses.

Doubt they get alot of them, apparently it isnt that great of a deal. Granted it could be the opinion of my source, which I know they are not considering.

They out to just call it "Come on Northie! You've got that pension, no need embarrassing yourself as a 64 year old FO!" :)

how many early outs are they offering? With the amount they will be hiring in the future it seems as if it would be stupid to furlough but then again i have heard a rumor somewhere of no hiring until 2013

This is not a furlough mitigation. They were offering early outs to the other employee groups, and our MEC wanted the pilots to get the same offer. The pilots were not offered the package last time, and some thought it was not fair.

Don't feel bad Dougy....I do qualify...

With that said, I'd be happy to retire if each DAL pilot contributed only $1/mo (in perpetuity) to my retirement fund. For the low price of a van driver tip, you could be rid of me forever!

That's scary but that would be a delicious retirement! :)

I told the captain I'm going to early-out, come back as a PRP and stay for another 20 years.

You were hired when you were 26? Didn't know that...dayum. If memory serves you would have been the youngest in my class by 2 years or so.

Any wagers on how many take the leap? My guess is less than 50. IMO it's really only some added goodies for those who were already heading out the door. Admittedly I don't know a lot of the details.

I don't think this one has any real validity because frankly no one could possibly project realistic hiring that far out. Six months ago there was talk of hiring this summer/fall but that probably isn't going to happen. Heck 2012 is too far out to acurately project. Too much can happen in a short time to change the picture.

Does anyone know what this buyout is worth?
