Roush Suvives Another Plane Crash

Maybe he should stick with something safer, like racing cars.

Anyone know how old he is? And how old was he when he first started flying jets? From the description of the flight path given above, sounds like he got low, slow, tried to recover and ended up in a stall (doing the dance, ending with a wing dropping off). Reminds me of Thurman Munson in his Citation.

He is very lucky it didn't light up or he'd have been...toast.

He's 68 now. I've never seen him do anything "risky" in the jet while coming into or out his home airport. He takes immaculate care of the aircraft too.

I have mad respect for the man. He built that company from the ground up from nothing. He's able to afford 6 airplanes and flies them all very regularly, including both of his P-51's.

Sucks that another one hit the ground, but I sincerely hope he doesn't give up flying. I've always enjoyed walking out on the flightline and taking a peek in the hangar or watching the P-51 start up from about 20ft away. Nothing like sitting in an oral and hearing the sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 outside the window! Who else do you know that takes their P-51 to work in the morning? :)

Maybe I should clarify...

I'm not saying I respect the way he flies, more of the company he created and the ability to love aviation the way he does, it has given him.

Yeah, someone, somewhere, got this screen shot from a webcam.

Have a lot of respect for Jack and everything he has done to promote GA. While he is obviously a very capable and accomplished pilot I would imagine insurance might play a large role in deciding as to whether he climbs into the left seat again.

In any event, glad everyone was able to walk away from it!

I hate to see that he is crashed and got really banged up like that. At least he made it out alive though. I really wish they would release some more concrete details as to what happened besides "he skidded off of the runway."

With all the cameras pointed toward the sky at OSH this week, someone is bound to have caught it unfolding. Whether or not they can upload it this week, or next week when they get home, a video is surely going to surface sometime soon...

I'm told he over shot the runway on the approach, attempted to get back onto the runway he was cleared too land on too aggressively.. Stall > Crunch > Bleed.

This was in the remarks section on an A.net picture:

Jack Roush's Premier, shortly after the crash. The aircraft was flying at 100-200 feet AGL, and appeared to be in a high-alpha, low-airspeed state. Moments later, the jet rolled 45-60 degrees to the right while descending, dragged a wingtip, spun 180 degrees on the ground, and came to rest in this position.

Not the recommended shortfield technique......
