Roush Suvives Another Plane Crash

Glad to hear he is okay, he is a really cool guy.

Crazy to see a plane that I have fueled multiple times like that.

This was a chain of events.

Airport just reopened after air show.
Lots of outbound traffic, lots of inbound traffic

I swear...the most dangerous time of any airshow is not the show itself. It's the mass exodous that occurs in the 20 minutes following the last act.

I'm told he over shot the runway on the approach, attempted to get back onto the runway he was cleared too land on too aggressively.. Stall > Crunch > Bleed.

What? What you just said makes no sense whatsoever... so he was driving it around like a car on the ground?
Oh you mean he overshot FINAL... Think > Type > FAIL

Last airplane I saw with the aft fuselage broken like that was in the cert testing for the MD-80.

That is actually a VERY interesting NTSB report... if you have the ambition to look it up I suggest you read it. THe pilot was trying to do a constant-alpha approach and missed an altitude callout or something and tattoo'd it in!

Ouch, that's gonna hurt.

I know the Premiers have small ailerons that have to be augmented by the spoilers for roll control. I'm guessing that can be a big disadvantage in his situation.

Not if the roll spoilers are working properly. The Lear 55 has the same system, and it works very well.

LOL.. That'll teach me to post from the phone...

What is it they tell us in the sim...?

"The decision to go around should be made early..."

Um note to Jack; Since this is not your first crash, consider this: If (in your case, WHEN) you find yourself saying, "This is stupid" it probably is, a go around is always a better option than dragging a wingtip.

I always wondered why she wears those crazy hats/glasses that cover her face...not any more.

She does make Chelsea Clinton look hot though. :rotfl:

Or as my old boss used to say, "She's got a face that would make a train take a dirt road."

Getting back to Jack's little miss adventure, do any of you Beachjet Experts know if that thing is certified for single pilot ops? I head a couple radio DJ's talking about it yesterday and they said it was just Jack and his secretary on board, no -copilot-. True?

Dude my stupid iPhone gets me in to trouble so much with its little keyboard.! I have skinny fingers but the iPhone makes me feel like a lummox!

LOL.. Yeh.. I've got sausage links for fingers... I typed too quick and the thoughts all ran together..

Yeh, heard he overshot the runway.. ;)

It's funny that you said that, I had to take the controls from a student yesterday on landing, as were coming in he simply mutters "Oh, " (it was that bad, and he continued)

I respond, if you have hear yourself saying or thinking that, do a Go-Around.

Roush Premier I in Oshkosh Landing Accident

By: Matt Thurber
July 29, 2010

At about 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, a Hawker Beechcraft Premier I piloted by Jack Roush crashed at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wis., on the second day of the annual EAA AirVenture show. The Premier was flying from Ypisilanti, Mich., to Oshkosh.

A witness told AIN that the Premier “approached very tight to the runway” and overshot, then was “doing sharp turns” and was flying very slowly at a low altitude above Wittman’s Runway 18. The witness said there was a piston-powered Piper landing in front of the Premier.

The Premier was observed about 200 feet above the runway banking from side to side by AIN just before it disappeared behind buildings and parked airplanes. The witness said that the Premier’s right wingtip hit the ground first, spinning the airplane rapidly around to the left.

After the Premier stopped, the engines were still running at a high power setting. Roush was observed exiting the crumpled jet with blood pouring down his face.

The passenger on board appeared to be uninjured, but they were both taken to the hospital, where Roush was reported in serious but stable condition. He was discharged from the hospital this afternoon.

After the accident, the Premier’s fuselage could be seen broken apart just forward of the engine pylons. The cockpit and cabin appeared intact.

The wreckage was moved to a maintenance hangar at the airport and the runway reopened yesterday morning. “A number of people have come forward with photos and video,” said an EAA spokesman.

The NTSB is investigating.
