Just got back from Rome a few hours ago and if you haven't gone, you NEED to go.

I'm just going to throw some photos at ya because I'm tired and I need to go to bed. Zzz! Some will have explanations, most wont:

What an RJ looks from a 767:

A safe distance away. We were all staggered on the runway during a ground stop.

Nice pictures, Doug.

If I ever get to Rome, I'll be so glad I did it older rather than younger (like, teen young). Looking even just at the pictures, at that living, standing, existing history is incredible. Man, the history in Europe has this way of turning time into a shape on a cubist's canvas.

(Whatever that means.)

I went with my dad to FCO for 24 hrs back in March. That was an awesome trip. He's got 3 Athens trips this month, I may just have to tag along on one of them.

Seriously. There is so much history stacked on history, it's incredible.

Call me crazy, but I was surprised how clean and compact it was. And the massive trees, man o man, beautiful city. Too bad it was darned near 100 degrees outside!

Food was good, people were friendly, too hot for wine al fresco, but the Peroni was cold and inexpensive. Gusto! ;)

Would the naked pee-pee have embarrassed you?

Nah. I grew up in Germany, where statues and paintings aren't considered "pornography" if there's nudity, so I'd already seen plenty of - um - "pee pee"s. ;)

But I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have appreciated the history the way I would now.

Nice pictures man! You're my frickin hero :D

BTW, I just have to ask, I am not sure if this was your first time in Rome, but if it was were you a victim of what I affectionately call "Oh, there it is" syndrome when you saw the Colosseum?

My first time in Rome, before seeing the Colosseum for the first time, I had all kinds of images in my mind of how it would look and where it would be located. I pictured some isolated, majestic structure in the far reaches of Italy. Then when you get to it, and it is surrounded by normal streets, everyday traffic, and local shops, I remember thinking "Oh, there it is?!?" :)

We kind of stumbled upon the Colosseum. I was more intrigued by the maps along the wall that showed the different phases of the Roman Empire through history. Interesting seeing how the Mediterranean was more or less a "backyard koi pond" of the empire for a period of time.

Already sounds like you got more of a chance to enjoy it on your first visit then I did.

My first visit to Rome was spent driving around for hours looking for repeater site!!!:panic:

Doug! You're the greatest! Those pics brought back memories. I was in Rome about the same time in 2003. When I was there it was about 95 degrees the whole time. How was the smell on the metro...lol? The history there is great, something interesting every street you go down. And the food...ahhh....I want to go back!
