Republic to fly for American

Nemo has turned my 23 hour credit 4-day into 12 hours of credit and lots of sitting around and deadheading, but I am pay protected during cancellations so I will still see the 23 hours on my check. If I were at Republic, I would just be SOL then???

As long as you aren't reassigned flying, then yes, your SOL as far as cancelled flights.

Sort of. As of now, yes, no cancellation pay. With that said, regardless of how many hours your line is built to, you at least can't go below the min guarantee. So if you're at 75 hours credit for a month and there are cancellations, you won't go below 75 hours of pay.

Any reassignment also will pay the greater of the originally scheduled pairing or the new flying for that day. I know, it's the little things that we grasp on to to try to make it seem a little better.

It's total crap with the no cancellation pay... But the reassignment helps, during Sandy I initially lost 7 hours on the last day of my trip. All flights were cancelled so I was given a limo back to my base and since the limo ride counts as a reassignment I didn't lose any credit.

Delta's fairly easy to get a reassignment on. Lots of Point A-B-C-D flights besides the DTW/LGA turns.
ORD forget it for AA, but you can make enough on your remaining trips to the 32R pad to make back your 2hr GRR turn.
UAL was a disaster on my last trip. CLE was a mess with snow and half of our trip overlapped into ORD to cover 170 flying. Did pick up a REA for a 7hr day AND didn't have to do a turn.
US seems split between CLT and DCA lately, but it's mostly turns.

It was United on this occasion, on the latest debacle that is Nemo I also got lucky with a REA, but rahcontractnow doesn't lie... there's some real horror stories out there.

True, but it's not TERRIBLE here. We don't have junior manning or hot reserve, it's 1 callout period for reserve (which is good or bad depending on what your situation is), and there is movement. Hell we don't even have to "check in" for work...we just show up and go fly. Granted we can't switch equipment, the pay is poor, etc...but there are worse places to work. It's a regional....meh.

Is this really how bad we [airline pilots] have become? We will settle for crap pay, crap work rules, all for a chance of "movement" and say there are worse places to be. Maybe this is why the regional industry is so crappy.

Sigh.

"Get that magic TPIC!!!!!!!!111one"

This.
Its a 90 minute call-out. He said one reserve period as in if you are on reserve its 3am-3pm only.

Honestly, the work rules aren't the worst by far. It's just the pay that's abysmal. Not saying that things are fine here bc they're not... But I have friends at other airlines that are like "scheduling called and gave me..." and Im like wtf? Not here.

This is why I like it here, but don't confuse me for wanting to be a lifer.

It's stable here, we are growing faster than we can handle, which is good and bad.
Our pilot group is tight-nit for being almost 3000. There is no animosity between the 3 certificates. Frontier is a whole different animal, The Midwest guys/gals are a class act through and through, why can't Frontier's pilot be same? (I'll get off me soap box)

My paychecks arrive on time. If there is a discrepancy, it is fixed.
The credit per trip are on par with the majors, of course we do more legs than them, which I don't mind, because I'm a bush-rat at heart and like being constantly busy.
I get what I put into the system. I treat everyone with a pleasant demeanor, and I receive the same.
I fly a 170 for a regional carrier. I don't fly a 170 for a mainline. While it would be nice not to have to walk 2-3 gates over to get paperwork, guess what, so do the mainline guys.
Smile once and a while at the gate agent who is having a miserable day, and its amazing what they will do for you, above and beyond what is required of them.

So in short, don't expect gold a gold platted job, because none exist at RAH. Take what you put into it.

It really isnt that bad, and alot of it depends on where you were/werent sitting when the music stopped. I dont feel like im in Regional HELL. I fly alot of 2-3 legs days which I like. The 170 is a fairly comfortable airplane. I rarely deal with anyone in mangement outside of reading their letters who are posted to all. With all that said, I have apps out to all 3 legacys that are accepting apps at this time, and would go when my name was called.

Two CA's I've already flown with this yr are gone already, two more just did interviews and are waiting on the call. Your odds are good me thinks!

Chicago has been reported as where the intial flying will be. So theyll possibly staff it out of IND, CMH...but I would expect a Republic Airlines base in ORD as well at some point.
