Relocation

FTFY.

If it wasn't for football, flight schools, and airlines, aviation is almost non-existent in Jacksonville, Orlando and Tallahassee. SE & SW Florida is big for corporate and charter. SE Florida is home to some of shadiest operations on Earth. Proceed with caution.

What is it about South Florida that attracts all of the sketchy operators? Is it easier to get away with stuff for some reason?

Which part of the sketchy operators?

The illegal charters (aka 134.5) are fueled by the close proximity to so many countries. "Hey, you're a pilot so that means you can you take me to Nassau cheaper than a charter?"

The operations that are actually 135 certificate holders, they'll sell the employee on the job, based on "you'll get extensive international experience" and pay you crap since you'll get so much sunshine.

Another factor is the size of the region. The FSDO just can't keep up. Check out FAA dot gov and look at the size of the region, you just can't police everyone with the limited resources.

Thinking about moving south? The migration pattern (full-time and snow-bird) follows the north-south Interstates. Folks from the northeast come down I-95 to the East coast of Florida. Mid-westerners come down I-75 to the Gulf coast. Central-mid-westerners take I-65 to Mobile AL and the Florida panhandle (aka 'Redneck Riviera'), I-55 to New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf coast, etc. Individual towns also frequently have clusters from the same regions up north.

Man, whats with all the Florida hate in here? Everyone talks the trash but they still end up here once they reach Medicare age!

I'm a dislocated Texan. Family keeps me here. Otherwise, I'd move in a heartbeat. Jax sucks!

Publix key lime pie.
Only key lime pie that's better than Publix key lime is going to Publix, picking up a bottle of key lime juice (some ma and pa brand, can't remember the name), it's got the recipe on it, follow that except use like half a dozen eggs instead of the 2-3 they have in there

I wish more people would hate Florida.

Door is thaddaway. Be sure to pick up your souvenir shellacked blowfish on the way out.
