Regionals? Which for my situation

Hi guys. Long time lurker.

Long story short, I am looking for a next step in the career. I'm thinking 121 regional.

I know nothing about specific regionals. I see all kinds of threads saying "this regionals SUCKS" or "xjt contract is terrible" or "air whiskey has no future" or all sorts of stuff like that.

Here's the deal: I have ATP mins and written. I am going to be commuting out of PBI/FLL/MIA. I have read how much commuting can suck, but that is one thing I absolutely need to do. If eagle seems like a good position to be in because of no commuting, so be it, like I said I don't know if they are good or bad.

Commuting out of FLL/PBI/MIA, no preference of airframe (jet vs turboprop).

My only goal, like most others here, is to have some QOL, a set schedule, and in the future, work for a major (be it pax or cargo, makes no diff here)

Thank you for your attention. I'm sorry if I am about to start a flamewar! I just want to know the facts and the options available.

Welcome to JC. All of the regionals have their problems, some worse than others. Most are all hiring. Id just start applying, go to some interviews and base your decision on that. At least you have a few commuting options.

Welcome. No flame started. :)

It will be a tough road, but it's doable. Many of the regionals that saw unprecedented growth a decade ago are now suffering. The quality of life, especially in the beginning, will suck. It's a crap sandwich, but a lot of us on here took a few bites. Welcome to the dinner table!

Good luck on your journey. Try to find a job close to where you live, or live to the base that seems the most stable. Living in base can make things tolerable.

Just start applying. Go to interviews. Once you get a job offer then people here can start helping you with the pros and cons.
Seriously, asking which one you should go to work for before any of them have hired you is a serious cart-before-horse problem. :D

All I'll say is if you can live in base, that will take half of the suck of a regional away right off of the bat. Start applying.

Welcome. Apply everywhere and see who hires you. My nugget of insight for you is that commuting out of Florida can be incredibly frustrating. FLL and TPA are usually booked solid on mainline sized aircraft with tons of non revs looking to escape to Florida in every possible season, for every possible holiday, to visit every grandma and grandpa they've ever had. Silver sucks- I worked there. But you could probably hold FLL and not have to commute. The only other regional you could try to get on with and not commute is Eagle- I have no idea if FL is senior or not for them.

Do not, repeat.... do NOT go to Silver.

Airline is imploding and the prognosis (at least from my perspective) is not good.

We do need pilots, but I would avoid at all costs.
Same problem as Great Lakes?

Same problem as Great Lakes?

For the most part. With the new rule back in August, it leveled the playing field for everyone and an airline that pays less than $20 an hour first year pay is going to have problems.

But... from what I understand, we aren't having problems recruiting pilots (they seem to promise the moon in interviews), but rather retaining the pilots that we recruit. They are attempting to solve that problem by offering the hiring bonus, but when you start with ~20 in class and 4 finish...

Add to that the problem of retaining current pilots...

And we are grossly understaffed, both on the line and in SOCC...

It all adds up to a bad mix of ingredients that makes Silver not the place to be right now.

Endeavor is in ok shape because we are parking planes. But itll be ugly here soon. Get a regional whose base you can live in.

Signon with xjt, get to dtw,buy a house for 5k. Hehe

holy crap ok. so from what i gather, try to live in home base. since my goal is South Florida, I should get on with Eagle.

That however doesn't have to be (I think). I can just apply everywhere and then move to whatever base. Ok I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think we're gonna make it
