Regional FO looking to do ATP

Hi guys,

I am looking for some advice here.

I am an FO on the CRJ-200 and it has been a while since I've flown a Seminole. I am planning to get my ATP done early next year and was wondering if anyone has previous experiences they could share. Maybe ATP instructors can chime in.

My ATP written exam is completed and good until June 2012. I last flew a Seminole in 2007 for my Commercial Multi (27 hours through UND). I have 2800 hours total, 2370 CRJ SIC. I do quite a bit of raw data flying (no flight director) to keep my scan sharp, but I will be the first to admit my crutch is having a nice map display and FMS data at my figertips to skip most of the headwork.

My main concern is determining what course to attempt. Will a two-day course be sufficient? I am a little bit leery of talking to ATP representatives because I am almost certain they will try to upsell me regardless. Do other pilots who were in my same situation that have any experiences to share?

Thanks!

We have a bunch of folks come in and do the shorter program after not flying a Seminole for years... They all do fine. It really is an easy checkride.

Hey man let me give you my perspective. Same boat as you. I was at OH for 4 years at the time. Went to ATP(DAB) to get my ATP. Only have great things to say about that place. It cost me $2500 to do the program. At the time haven't flown the Seminole in over 4 years. My instructor was great. They laid out what was going to happen and it was exactly as they quoted. My checkride was fun and I didn't have any problems. There is the guy up in Maine, John Traske(sp?) who does it for around the same price. Get it done, because it puts you ahead or on the same level as many regional guys trying to make the jump. It got me to where I am today(B6) by taking the leap. Good luck and PM if you have any questions.

I am in the same boat, taking the training for my ATP this weekend. Hopefully I will have some good news for you sometime in the evening of friday, I'll definately share my experience.

I did mine 3 weeks ago at ATP in Houston. Had 0 hours in a Seminole. Did the 2 day program and it was as expected and described. Know the systems for the oral and all will be fine. I highly recommend them. I had 160 multi and just over the mins total. My instrument skills were sharp flying 135 in a 210.

Can't regionals give you your ATP on your PIC type ride?

They do; however my upgrade has been pushed back by at least two more years. Another serious job opportunity that requires an ATP makes it worth it to get it on my own.
