I'm really surprised Southwest allows that, especially seeing as how they have a union. Even Piedmont wouldn't allow it and we have to have one day off every 7. I talked to one of the Southwest guys here and he said he'd worked a 20 hour shift once. No thank you. Hell, I'm usually pretty knackered by about hour 10, which is a normal full time shift.Theres some crazy stories out there of people being on the clock for outrageous numbers. I wont mention which station but theres a guy I know that was continuously on the clock for 60 hours.

Haha it was a once in a lifetime type deal that it was able to be done, but it involved picking up hours (doing a voluntary double) then being extended/mando'd to cover more hours and then waving 10 hour rest period rule.
The most I did when I was on the ramp was 23 hours. That was a long day to say the least!

I would really like to send an application into united but unfortunately I'm not 18 yet. There site won't even accept my application. Hopefully one of them is hiring in a month and a half, can't wait to get out of the call center.

I'm not trying to hijack Ayorks thread here but I'm also interested in getting a job as a ramper, unfortunately i'm about 20 miles away from Logan (BOS) so working for a major airline is out of the question. Has anyone here worked with Signature flight support? They have a base in BED which is actually a doable commute for me. Are FBO's open to hiring full time college students?

I work for Signature and they support their employees going to college. But I am not sure if they are hiring around the Boston area, well at least not a LST position anyway.They are a good company and they are a good stepping stone if you want to move up in your career.

BED isn't hiring right now. Apparently they hired 4 rampers recently though, so stuff does come up...

20 miles isn't too bad. Jetblue is usually hiring every month it seems like. They're a pretty good gig to start off with. They also hire PT positions which wont happen with a place with SWA for the most part. Where do you live? I'm in BOS.

I live in Lowell, MA so its actually more like 30 miles. I'm also a full time college student.

Got'cha. Going to school full time plus working full time with a commute is a recipe for disaster. I did it for a while and ended up dropping the school option to keep up with work. However, when I went to part time at work (3, 4 hour shifts) I was able to go to school full time. That was with a 55 mile commute each way. You may want to take a peak at Jetblue since they hire PT'ers and give it a shot?
