Ramping for an airline

Applied at Frontier and Regional Elite. Those are the only two with openings at OMA at the moment.

I'll definetly keep my eyes open for Southwest. Probably be a bit tough to get a job there since OMA is a bit smaller of an airport.

Just thought I'd drop a line an let you know United is hiring at OMA. I'd say go for that before any sub-contractors and regionals! Good luck!

Theres some crazy stories out there of people being on the clock for outrageous numbers. I wont mention which station but theres a guy I know that was continuously on the clock for 60 hours. :aghast:
I'm really surprised Southwest allows that, especially seeing as how they have a union. Even Piedmont wouldn't allow it and we have to have one day off every 7. I talked to one of the Southwest guys here and he said he'd worked a 20 hour shift once. No thank you. Hell, I'm usually pretty knackered by about hour 10, which is a normal full time shift.

Haha it was a once in a lifetime type deal that it was able to be done, but it involved picking up hours (doing a voluntary double) then being extended/mando'd to cover more hours and then waving 10 hour rest period rule.

The most I did when I was on the ramp was 23 hours. That was a long day to say the least!

I would really like to send an application into united but unfortunately I'm not 18 yet. There site won't even accept my application. Hopefully one of them is hiring in a month and a half, can't wait to get out of the call center.

I'm not trying to hijack Ayorks thread here but I'm also interested in getting a job as a ramper, unfortunately i'm about 20 miles away from Logan (BOS) so working for a major airline is out of the question. Has anyone here worked with Signature flight support? They have a base in BED which is actually a doable commute for me. Are FBO's open to hiring full time college students?

I work for Signature and they support their employees going to college. But I am not sure if they are hiring around the Boston area, well at least not a LST position anyway. They are a good company and they are a good stepping stone if you want to move up in your career.

Do you have any advice on how to get a interview with them? I have applied numerous times and have only been scheduled for a interview once.

BED isn't hiring right now. Apparently they hired 4 rampers recently though, so stuff does come up...

20 miles isn't too bad. Jetblue is usually hiring every month it seems like. They're a pretty good gig to start off with. They also hire PT positions which wont happen with a place with SWA for the most part. Where do you live? I'm in BOS.

I live in Lowell, MA so its actually more like 30 miles. I'm also a full time college student.

Got'cha. Going to school full time plus working full time with a commute is a recipe for disaster. I did it for a while and ended up dropping the school option to keep up with work. However, when I went to part time at work (3, 4 hour shifts) I was able to go to school full time. That was with a 55 mile commute each way. You may want to take a peak at Jetblue since they hire PT'ers and give it a shot?
