RAH strike vote

Which was why I was asking for a timeline of events that has lead up to this point.

You've got to have a strike vote in place before the NMB will take a request to be released seriously. Our AFA unit got a stroke vote passed (98% yes with 95% of the group voting) and was on the verge of being released, which caused the company to come back to the table with a bunch of stuff that the AFA wanted. I guess the thought of CHAOS over the holidays scared the crap out of them.

I know this is shocking, but Republic is talking about selling aircraft and arrival slots in D.C. to get some more cash.

Hmm... Those are all old US Airways planes and slots.

Funny how that works. Maybe they can buy them back for less than they sold them and look like geniuses.

Of course, which was why I was interested in the timeline that the RAH guys have been under recently. That's all. Kinda got that, but the following will help a little bit more - especially as a frame of reference for the ASA/XJT folks to see, considering we will soon be entering into mediation.

How long have you guys been in mediation Kingairer? How often have your negotiators been meeting with the Company and the mediator? Three times a week, three weeks a month - or at a lower frequency, and for how long?

I can't really lend more than moral support, but you guys certainly have it from me. This industry has gotten nasty over the last few years, but removing a seat from an aircraft to make it a 99 seater instead of a 100 seater just to phluck the pilots is unprofessional and disrespectful, along with castrating Frontier and using you guys to fly all they're routes to split the pilot group. Ever since day 1 at flight school we all get the professionalism brief beaten into us over and over again yet the maturity of the management in some these companies is often on the same level of a toddler and his GI Joe.

No airline anywhere can operate with out its flight crew. Hammer them into submission without mercy.

...and Midwest, don't forget that.

Prediction:

RAH pilots authorize strike 80/20.

2nd Prediction:

RAH pilots agree to 5% total cost concession on next contract.

Us taking anything less then what we have won't happen. This group is willing to watch this place go out of business then to take any concessionary contract.

We've already cleared 80%. I'm not a huge union yeller, but from what I've seen over the years, this management team is one of the least favorable towards employees. Since there are many others that agree with me, I don't see why we can't all say we're upset.

Short timeline:

CBA was signed in 2003 before 170's hit the property.

CBA became amendable in 2007 and shortly before this, negotiations began.

Most topics were covered up to April 2009. IBT National takes measures to take over the Local 747 and accuses Gene Sowell of purposely mismanaging the finances.

Summer/Fall 2009: Midwest Airlines is purchased, partly with a $25M loan given to Midwest and Frontier Airlines is also purchased while exiting bankruptcy. Up to this point most of the small sections of contract talks had been covered and contract talks were very slow, but with regard to the many changes to the company taking place. The evolving Local leadership also played a role.

Fall 2009/Winter 2010 Senority List Integration talks begin and RAH/IBT contract talks are suspended by the IBT Negotiation Team due to the many changes taking place in 2009.

RAH/IBT contract talks resume at the end of 2010 with the first exchange of "new" proposals.

June 2011: Representation election is complete, IBT is elected and 60 clock begins for SLI completion with fence requirements. I believe this was around the time mediated talks began.

August 2011: 60 day clock expires, ISL is active and some items on the seniority integration are referred to the arbitrator for interpretation.

Fall 2011: mediated talks continue and in short, are unproductive. There is mention of a possible strike vote and strike vote is announced shortly after the talk begins.

I'm not going to go into detail, because I don't get the intimate details, but from the way the company has treated me, I have no doubt they give the NC that much more respect. I, personally, don't take into account the timeline of other negotiations to compare.

Good luck to you guys! Give management hell, I am anxious to see what CommutAir's contract comes to when we get something to vote on. I hope everyone doesn't just vote yes for the hell of it.

Impressions
- No RAH aircraft shown in the piece. Saw ASA, XJT, and PSA.
- JetBlue pilots only make 39k first year.
- Nobody showed your union rep that a tie is supposed to reach his belt.

How could you strand travelers for Christmas????!!
