RAH announces 2 new bases

If the routes were truely that full, would Airways really have pulled out nearly all operations? For what its worth, the PHL, CLT, PHX, DCA, and LGA stuff was pretty heavy.... But some of the other small markets out of PIT were dead... PIT-IND and many more like those were terrible loss...

I know it doesnt sit too well, but USairways seems to be making the right moves... DCA increase, CLT, PHL and PHX bases and trimming those other focal cities that arent profitable due to rules such as LGA and the distance aircraft can travel out of there....

from the numbers i have seen... pit was a very profitable market and there still are many profitable routes that are cut on a regular basis. I still say it is just a big @!$& measuring contest and the authority wouldn't back down. but anyways yeah i think they could move a few flights in and out of pit and be profitable . who knows. time will tell

I would not be surprised if RAH tries to do some Midwest flying into CLT. Since they cannot have direct competition with DAL/USairways they cannot fly midwest planes or frontier into ATL/CLT. But GSO would be an option ;)! Now that's highly unlikely but I would not put it past BB to do something like that. Draw some of the NC paxs onto Midwest/Frontier out of GSO.

GSO will not see Frontier/Midwest service (unlikely). I believe the GSO base is because Airways has continued to increase our presence in CLT. Why we can't have a CLT base, is beyond me. But GSO is the next best thing. I have been *told* by someone in the planning, that PHL and DCA will reduce in size, growing GSO and DEN.

I just want my PHL base again...I hate commuting to reserve and uncommutable lines.

I've heard from crews that the issue in CLT is hanger space. Very limited and expensive there in CLT.

I didn't realize there were any airline domiciles/hubs in MCI

Midwest has been using MCI as a hub for quite a few years. I don't think it's ever been a pilot base for them, though. Republic uses it as a pilot base with their Midwest ops.

Since when do you need a hangar for a crew base? Mx, yes, but pilots and FAs?

I might be mistaken, but logistically I know you'd need some space in the basement of a concourse for the CP offices, mailboxes and the like, and that would be about it.

You dont even need a CP office there. Hell we only have cheif pilots in CLT. TYS/DAY do not have them. In addition TYS doesnt have a mx base. We have a mx base in CAK and no crew base. I would assume if it made sense for a base to be open in CLT it would be done. However apparently there's a reason for a lack of a base there. In addition more bases mean it cost more money and more money in staffing. I'm surprised by the GSO base already... DEN I think we all knew was coming.

I dunno. This is just what i was told.

People can run separate operations from the main hubs.
